Patent or Leather Shoes for School

DD starting school....very rough on shoes always has the toes scuffed on them in no time
Am i better with black patent or black leather ?

my thought process was that if she scuffs the black leather i can polish them but if she scuffs the patent what can i do about it ?

Anyone more experienced in this school shoe business than me !?

Patent leather looks much smarter.

Use vaseline to clean and polish, it helps keep the leather supple and stops it cracking.

Ah ok WaitingForAGovernment. I've never bought Pediped, so not experienced that. Will make a note not to buy that brand

Ok. Confession - I was always, always against patent leather shoes. Thought they were ridiculous for school (party shoes really!) until we had to get some for DD (really weird feet) and they lasted so much longer than her plain leather shoes. Was totally and utterly surprised. Looking back they were the best shoes she had.

I'd buy patent again.

I am always stuck, can only ever buy shoes that fit her very narrow feet (f -fitting) plus can't have flat shoes (like converse) has to have a higher heal than toe and various other niggles. Thankfully rules about uniform here aren't crazy and she's wearing black trainers at the moment.

Patent last longer in our house. The most longest lasting were patent M&S ones. A lot of the girls shoes now have a rubber bumper bit on the front.

Patent lasted better for my dc

@Nicpem1982 you won't be disappointed with DMs, they have soft leather which can be worn straight away without rubbing and because of the chunky soles don't scuff!

Dd (6) has the crown patent shoes from clarks and they still look great after 6 months

My dd has kickers with rubber over the toes. Only pair of shoes that has ever lasts

*Lasted the school year

BitOfAKerfuffle · 01/08/2019 16:07

Oh just popped back on here and I see a lot of recommendations for DMs and kickers ! I've seen a nice pair of kickers actually with rubber over the toe and in the style I would like for DD
Now my issue lol what's the width like on them ? We have a very narrow foot ....a D !! Which is impossible to get so we have to buy e's which are a bit loose and gappy on her and f's well they just look terrible so I'm wondering if kickers and dms would be too wide on her feet !?

I bought my daughter her first pair of school shoes yesterday. Was going to get leather but the lady in the shop advised that patent would last longer, so we got a pair of patent Clark’s shoes. Will see how it goes!

Patent leather all the way here. A quick wipe and they look great for ages!

PivotPivotPivottt · 01/08/2019 17:39

I always buy parent for my daughter. She has had 2 pairs of Lelli Kelly's patent shoes which lasted the full year. The first pair she grew out of in the last month of term so I bought her a pair of patent shoes from Tesco and they were scuffed on the first day. This year we have gone for Doc Martens so hoping they last well.

Patent. When dd was small they still looked perfect in July.
