Why is the BBC making such a fuss about the Fortnite championship?

When the other gaming world championships never get a look in, even though they are longer running and have more valuable prize pots?

It really strikes me as 'not news'

though I suppose if you didn't know how much the top gamers make, then it wouid be new information, and perhaps worth knowing (even though the real money is in the streaming/advertising, not the competitive prize pots even when they are huge) But that still doesn't make it bulletin news

It's probably just because Fortnite is a game that most people have heard of. And the players at the world championship were often very young.

To make is all feel a bit better about how much time our kids are spending on the X box over the holidays.

It's (nearly) all young men and teenage boys, in all competitions always!

Good point - but that doesn't really make something News, does it?
