OMG I've put on half a stone on holiday! Can I lose it in a week?!

I'm even more annoyed because I would have thought it was the healthiest holiday we've ever had- no drinking, loads of walking, in the pool loads and no crappy processed foods!

Bugger me!

I’ve just got back and haven’t weighed yet...I’m petrified!!! I’m going away again in just over a week so def need to lose half a stone too.

Lots of water, low carb, tons of veg and lean meats?

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 28/07/2019 12:43

Sure it's not just a temporary water retention from the flight/salty foods?

GabrielsCurls · 28/07/2019 12:45

Can you retain that much water?!

I live in Spain, if I drink 2 H2O litres a day, religiously, I lose half a stone in a week easy.

You CAN retain that much water!

EdWinchester · 28/07/2019 12:49

That's impressive!

I would say some of it is water retention. You can easily lose the rest with no carbs.

Soola · 28/07/2019 12:53

I like to enjoy myself but I never ever want to be fat/overweight.

I eat whatever I want but exercise portion control.

However when I’m on holiday it at Christmas I do indulge in richer/high calorie foods and when I get back home or the holiday season has passed I immediately restrict my calorific intake by eating small amounts spread out through the day so that I don’t feel hungry but my overall intake is low in calories.

I easily lose within a week what I’ve gained!

(I’ve never gained more than half a stone even on the most fabulous dining).

GabrielsCurls · 28/07/2019 12:54

Had I spent the week eating deep fried crap I'd be more impressed but as it is I'm more raging!

Some of it will be water retention. So you'll likely only need to lose about 3lbs which is doable if you're really careful.

CorbynsComrade · 28/07/2019 13:10

There’s no way you’ll have put on half a stone. To put a pound on you need 3500 calories excess. Also imo you don’t need low carb to achieve weight loss. In fact, all you need is a calorie deficit. What you put into your body to make that happen doesn’t matter in terms of weight loss.

CorbynsComrade · 28/07/2019 13:14

Maybe you’ve put on a bit of muscle so you’ll weight more... If you look in the mirror and like what you see then don’t let weight bother you if you’re not overweight to begin with.

francienolan · 28/07/2019 13:16

I retain at least 3-5 pounds just from flying alone--it dehydrates you and when you're dehydrated your body holds on to water weight.

If your trousers fit the same I wouldn't worry about it, try to drink a lot of water. I got off the plane a week ago and am now 4 pounds down from what I weighed that morning--I certainly hadn't gained that much fat on holiday nor eaten little enough to lose that much fat this week! (I calorie count and am very careful.)

BlueCornsihPixie · 28/07/2019 13:21

When I fly/travel to a hot country I always puff up a bit and retain a load of water

It can easily be 6lbs worth for me. Before my period I always weight about 6lb more than when I start, because I just retain water the couple of days leading up to it. It's literally how I know my period is coming I stop needing to pee!

It's probably mostly water, tbh if you haven't noticed it in terms of how your body looks/clothes fit I wouldn't worry. Just eat healthy for a week and drink plenty of water. I don't really know why people weigh themselves coming back from holiday!

amusedbush · 28/07/2019 13:34

I gained a whopping 12lbs on my honeymoon - I ate anything that wasn't nailed down. I was like Pacman Blush

I lost all of it within a week. The majority of it was water retention as I'd gone from eating low carb for months to eating whatever I wanted, plus dehydration from salt, booze, heat, flying, etc.

You haven't actually gained 7lbs of fat.

Katinthedoghouse · 28/07/2019 13:40

This was me last week Grin

Literally 7lb appeared over 10 days and I’d been eating healthily as usual ,albeit a bit more alcohol

I am also taking anti ulcer type medication which mentions water retention and had noticed my ankles were a bit puffy tho...

One week later back in the U.K. , ankles back to normal and 7lb lighter - so don’t despair !

GabrielsCurls · 28/07/2019 14:19

I was 9 stone 1 when I left and 9 stone 8 this morning Shock

I am definitely bloated- flight usually does that to me.

I ate anything that wasn't nailed down. I was like Pacman

This made me laugh so much Grin

I always retain water on holiday. First holiday with DH behorewe got married I couldn’t fasten a pair of cropped trousers on day one on day three i was weeing loads every 1/2 hour and the trousers were then loose.

bushes · 28/07/2019 14:42

^ Grin

I've lost half a stone in a week, but to be fair that's because my marriage has ended . If that's not an option you wish to consider for weight loss (Grin) then drink fuck loads of water, cut the booze and no late night eating. It'll disappear in a jiffy.

ThatCurlyGirl · 28/07/2019 15:09

This is the best thing I've read all week 😂

NoSauce · 28/07/2019 15:23

It’ll be water retention, I’m the same, give it a few days and weigh yourself again I’ll bet you’re back to where you were.

amusedbush · 28/07/2019 15:30

@ThatCurlyGirl

I’m glad it’s funny now, even if my honeymoon photos are like a flip book of me getting fatter 🌝😂

ThatCurlyGirl · 28/07/2019 16:05

@amusedbush

Thank you for your sacrifice, I needed a laugh today 😂

The other day I also enjoyed my 4 year old cousin who I wouldn't let have yet another slice of chocolate cake - she said calmly, slowly, quietly and ridiculously intensely "IF I CANT EAT IT I WILL EAT YOU"

shudder

😂

Pinkvici22 · 01/08/2019 07:07

Just thought I’d update - I weighed in Monday, had put on 9lbs!!! WTF?!

Weighed this morning after drinking 3 litres water a day, low carb, high protein and 30-40 mins exercise a day and I’m down 6lbs! I know it’ll be some water weight but it means I’ve only got 3lbs to lose!
