Anyone familiar with Heathrow airport?

What's the minimum time you would allow to get from terminal 3 to terminal 5? Just one adult. Luggage booked on connecting flight.

Thanks

No idea, I hate the place and will willingly pay extra to fly from LGW and even Stansted....... that is how much I hate it. Grin

My dh has been far very away with work for what feels like forever. Due to catch a connecting flight in Heathrow in the morning but his first flight is delayed.

I’ve the displeasure of this connection many times and will be doing T5 -> T3 again on Friday morning.

LHR reckons 90 minutes for our flights but we’ve usually make it in under an hour. However, we do tend to fly premium class so we’re first off the plane and get fast track security. See here for the LHR connection planner:
www.heathrow.com/flight-connections

If the airline has let you book it as a through ticket, I’m guessing this must be the case of luggage will transfer automatically then they think you can make it and they have the responsibility of getting you to your final destination. Meaning they have to book you on a new flight if you miss the original one due to delays. That’s thankfully never happened to me though!

It’s one stop on the underground Heathrow Express, but you can wait 10-15 minutes for a train and it’s a little walk on the T3 side, so I’d say minimum 40 mins, but give yourself much more if you can (and that’s not allowing for security queues obviously).

SagAloojah · 28/07/2019 00:37

Yes, I agree with Honeyroar, 40 mins just in case there is a delay with trains.

No sign of his first flight boarding. He's unlikely to make the connection now. In fact his flight is in doubt.
They say they can't help at all til the flight is actually missed.
I'm so disappointed. And the kids went to bed expecting to see him midday tomorrow.

Oh no :(

There might still be hope- DH had a flight held for him recently, there were a number of others on his first plane who happened to be connecting on to the same flight so I guess the airline must have considered it worth it. And some relatives were recently treated to a chauffeur driven car through Heathrow connections, they were very late and apparently it’s a new service they’re trialing.

I hope he makes it!

babysharkah · 28/07/2019 00:49

I'd want at least 90 minutes. It's a long way.

Shinygoldbauble · 28/07/2019 00:54

He won't make the connection now. He has a long flight ahead and they are delayed over 2 hours. Haven't boarded yet.

If the delays have a knock on to Heathrow flights he might make it.

When I came back from the US earlier in the year my flight was 90 minutes late leaving, but they made up time and we landed 60 minutes late. My flight out was delayed by 2 hours so I made it.

The 6 of us were hauled off our plane first and practically chucked on a buggy/car thing and driven to the other terminal (by a man with very dubious driving skills!)

Expressedways · 28/07/2019 00:59

Also if he’s flying transatlantic there’s a chance that the flight will land early if they catch a good tailwind. This always seems to happen to me, which is the worst as it cuts your sleep short but if you’re trying to make a tight connection it can help.

Also to the posters that mention trains, would this apply? You don’t usually leave the airside bit and enter the U.K. so it’s normally the flight connections bus. At least that’s how I’ve always done it!

Shinygoldbauble · 28/07/2019 10:26

He didn't make his connection. Flight delayed by over 3 hours. They helpfully booked him a new flight over 10 hours after his original one despite there being flights all day. He went to the desk himself and changed it to a much earlier one. All going well he'll be home about 6 hours later than planned which isn't too bad.

And a bit thank you to everyone who answered last night when I was stressed.
