Dd1 has moved back home for the summer from Uni. Is planning on moving in with the boyfriend after the summer (not 100% happy with this, she's only 19) and boyfriend is here a LOT, including overnights.

Dd1 works in a wedding venue and is working 2-12 today so out all evening. Boyfriend is a doorman, was working through the day today and then came back here for tea! He's just left for an 11-3 shift and text me from the bus stop to recommend a taxi firm as he'd missed the bus. He just sent me a text to say he was there safe.

I'm his MIL aren't I?

(He's a nice guy, just think dd1 is getting in too deep too quick, but of course there's no telling her!!)

You are whatever you wish to be.

Huh? My dd has been in shared accommodation with her boyfriend at uni this year. They’ve been on holiday together. But they’re not married. So I’m not his mil.
It’s nice your dd has a serious relationship, but they’re not married.

I wouldn’t rush out and buy a hat for the wedding just yet!

Mil, not quite. But it's sweet all the same.

Remember being 19 and in love? I sure do

I read the OP more that he is treating her parentally by letting her know he is safe etc so she feels likes she has been adopted as his MiL

I already feel like the mother in law to my son’s girlfriend (he’s just about to turn 16). We text about what she is getting him for his birthday, or if he’s home napping as he’s not answering the phone, I text her to give him a message when he’s not answering my calls, she stays over (guest bedroom), he stays over at hers, they’ve been away together (with her dad), he joins in the extended family dinners every other week, there’s a picture of them amongst the family photos on her mum’s mantle, they go out for a special dinner every month in their monthly ‘anniversary’, they’ve picked their first borns name...
