Anyone regularly drive Cairnryan to England?

Off this morning to Yorkshire & wondering if it's quicker to go across to near Lockerbie to get on the motorway quicker but a longer route, or beast to go on down the A57 to Gretna way like we normally do?

I have a terrible sense of direction but have satnav. The motorway always feels like ages away but if there's not much of a time saving, it doesn't matter. Looking for experts in the field, thanks!
