How long was it before you could feel it there? I got mine yesterday afternoon and I feel like I have a horribly misplaced foreign body. Is this normal? FWIW I didn't want it and am quite anti it, so am potentially imagining the fact I can feel it:(

Oh bugger. Before you COULDN'T feel it.

I've never felt it. I was a little sore for a few days after it was fitted but after that I totally forgot it was there

Shylo · 24/07/2019 22:28

I never felt it either .... if you can definitely feel it I’d go back, because you shouldn’t be able to

Alwaystimefor · 24/07/2019 22:28

I felt weird for a few days, but now I have no sense it’s there at all. I’ve had it since January and I can honestly say I bloody love it. I was very wary and it felt like a last resort, but I really wish I’d had one years ago!

CATTY15 · 24/07/2019 22:28

I don't think I've ever felt mine and I'm on my third.

Shakennotshook · 24/07/2019 22:29

Have never been able to feel mine. I was meant to go back after a few weeks to get it checked but I forgot. Put on apointment with practice nurse?

roothyb · 24/07/2019 22:32

Awh love if you're anti it and didn't want it you shouldn't have it in! Mine settled in alright as far as I can remember. Cramping for the first month or so, slightly more painful during periods but it did settle. Did they show you how to check the strings to make sure it's still on place?

Any pain that you can't deal with or a temperature go straight back to the doctors. X

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 24/07/2019 22:36

I felt mine for a few days, maybe even a week? Apparently I have a very sensitive cervix Hmm. I went for a short jog a few days after I got it in and the movement seemed to settle it.

If you don't want it though, can you do something about having it removed?

Mac47 · 24/07/2019 22:41

No, they didn't show me. Just gave me information and sent me off. Im encouraged by all your positivity, I really didn't want it, but he said he would not do an ablation unless I tried a coil first. It doesn't hurt as such, well the cramping does but he (consultant) said that would be the biopsy. I am just very aware of having something that feels like a high up tampon. If it gets better, shall woman up and get on with it! Thank you all for your comments.

If you got it for very heavy bleeding, mine has been amazing to stop that. I was using maternity pads for my periods, with horrible flooding for 3-4 days a month, and after the first month I've never had heavier than minor spotting. It's been absolutely life changing that way. I hope it's as successful for you, but if you're not happy that your consultant listens to you.

BelindasGleeTeam · 24/07/2019 22:46

I've never noticed mine.

One my second: best thing I've done in ages. No more PMT, no more painful, heavy periods.

Mac47 · 24/07/2019 22:49

It was totally for heavy bleeding - been bleeding since last year! Non stop for months. I was just (rightly or wrongly) against hormonal contraception to stop it, as I don't like the pill and don't need contraception. If it works, it will be wonderful, I just hate that I can feel it there, but hopefully from what you all say, that will fade.

I also hated the idea of having a pointy piece of plastic in me, and it was insanely painful having it installed. PLUS DP was then a total wuss saying he could feel the string and he was afraid it was going to poke him. But it was all ok in the end.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 24/07/2019 23:18

I felt odd for a couple of weeks until I’d had a period, then fine. Have had it just over a year now and honestly have no clue it’s there most of the time. The bonus is that bleeding is reduced to a few days spotting a month now.

Wishing you the best of luck with it.

clucky3 · 24/07/2019 23:30

I felt kind of weird in the lower back for 2-3 weeks. Was worried I'd made a mistake, but after then it settled down and i never looked back

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 24/07/2019 23:30

I'm on my 2nd, they're bloody brilliant!!! Today 2 of my colleagues were complaining about being on their period, I don't have to worry about it!! 😂 But neither me or dh have ever been able to feel it

Chocolate35 · 24/07/2019 23:36

I didn’t particularly want it either, I hated the idea of “pumping hormones into myself” but 5 years on and I think it’s brilliant.
It took me a couple of weeks not to notice it. I occasionally check the string but other than that it’s hassle free and has made my periods lighter and shorter as well as pretty much getting rid of my mood swings. Hope you get the same results too.

CandidCat · 24/07/2019 23:41

My first one felt awful, like it was digging into my hip for about the first 7-10 days. I then bled heavily for a long time during which it stopped being a problem. However, when I went to have it swapped out years later they couldn't find it and concluded it must have fallen out due to being badly placed, possibly very early on during all that heavy bleeding. Thankfully I hadn't got pregnant during the years since! I had a new one put in and have never felt it, although I have had it checked this time and it is allegedly still there. It's been in there almost 3 years now. If you are feeling yours maybe get it checked and make sure it is correctly sited.

mrbob · 25/07/2019 00:27

A couple of days of spotting and feeling it and then I forget it is there completely! Except when someone mentions periods and I remember how happy I am that I haven’t had one in 10 years Wink

MT2017 · 25/07/2019 01:03

I love mine too - it has changed my life. When your entire lower wardrobe consists of dark colours in case you bleed over them, you know it's time for a coil Blush
