Have you ever taken a picture with you to the hairdressers of a style you would like? What was the reaction you received for asking to show the picture as you felt you weren't explainin it correctly.

I always thought this was a normal thing and then I read an article last week from a hairdresser saying that people shouldn't do it so I'm actually of no help to you at all.

I used to take in a picture out of a magazine of Penelope Tree to show the exact length I wanted my fringe to look like. I did look like her so it was a good picture to take in.

Never had a problem in doing so.

Now I cut it myself.

My hairdressers has an iPad which they use to search and look through pictures with you.

See I thought it was the done thing too.. but the reaction i got today made me wonder! He was quite "ugh yeah, sure you show me a picture"!!
And to be honest not that it mattered anyway as he didn't do it even close to the picture 😞

My hairdresser doesn't seem to mind but I always ask if it's possible with my hair to get a style like the one I'm showing her, not have unrealistic expectations of what a style will look like on my hair iykwim?

Fantababy · 24/07/2019 20:13

I often take a picture but don't often feel like my hair resembles the picture when done. It's difficult though, as I'm never going to look like the model / actress in question no matter what they do with my hair!
Why do hairdressers not want you to take a picture?

Idiot1 · 24/07/2019 20:15

Yep I get you TooOldForThis but my hair was definitely able for the style I had shown. I had looong very thick hair that I wanted shaggy layered and a bit shorter.
I ended up with just longer than a bob and layered 😂

I thought this was the done thing as well and never had problems in the past until I showed one stylist some Instagram pics and he looked at me like I was a raving lunatic! Not at the photos themselves as they were perfectly normal and like cuts I usually have but in a 'why are you showing me these' kind of way 😂

I rarely do it as I tend to stick to the same style. However last time I went my stylist actually showed me some pictures to double check that we had the same idea (colour related).
