Spiderman: far from home - if you've never seen a Marvel film?

Considering taking 11yo DS to see this tomorrow, as the lure of air con is very attractive, and we have seen everything else that is age appropriate!

Neither DS nor I have ever seen a Marvel film. Would we enjoy, or be able to follow, this film with that in mind please?

Yes. Partly.

It's the second film in this spiderman reboot.

And end game sets up this film. Personally I think you would miss alot of the background that's relevant and some of the small references. You probably will still enjoy it though.

Thanks. DS will be reluctant to come (he has never wanted to watch Marvel, it is me who is pushing this in advance of secondary school where I think it will be popular and I want him to be able to join in socially) so I think I need to start more at the beginning.

Which film should I start with please?

You can watch them in release order or chronological order.

Personally I go for release order.

One of the hulk films is technically part of it, but you can ignore them imo.

I would start with Iron Man one. If you Google it you can see the release order.

You can find chronical order by googling as well. But that would start with Captain America, The first avenger.

My ds and me are massively into them. But he has lots of friends who arent.

Theres 22 filmed altogether, I think, I have seen then all and got dvds of everyone that has come out just waiting for Endgame.

All the stories are linked and Endgame was where they were leading to. But Far from home, is the last of this phase and definitely linked to Endgame

Wow hiding! 22 is a commitment. I will start with Iron Man 1. Hopefully it will be on amazon prime or netflix or similar, as DS rarely watches a film more than once. Would we need to watch them all to understand them?

I've seen it and the only other one I've seen is Homecoming. Made perfect sense Smile

ThisIsNotAIBUPeople · 24/07/2019 14:36

OMG you need my 15 yr old DS, he would delight in telling you the exact order and details of each and every Marvel movie ever made he's a bit of a geek
My 10 yr old has just started to take an interest and is watching them in a much more ad hoc manner, much to my eldest's disgust!Grin

Mrsjayy · 24/07/2019 14:40

Yes it will be ok although there is reference to iron man (Rip) but your son will enjoy it andcyou can take a nap in the coolGrin

WellTidy · 24/07/2019 15:08

OMG Mrsjayy you've ruined it for me, how will I recover Smile?

It's been going years. About 10 year. Sky has quite a lot of them on at the moment.

Mrsjayy · 24/07/2019 15:42

Personally I would just watch the Avengers films everybodies in it and thats you caught up 😃

K1ssIt · 24/07/2019 16:32

I went with dh and dd a few weekends ago, I've seen any of the other linked films and enjoyed it.

There's post credit scenes so if you do go don't do what I did and get up to leave as soon as the credits roll. I had a hundred death stares 😀

If you are going to do that, you need to see civil war (which may as well be an avengers film).

I think as pp said, you woildnt understand some stuff, but still enjoy it. Somethings would probably go over you head rather than confuse you.

Like the Skrulls.

SummerSeasoning · 24/07/2019 16:38

I watched it and enjoyed it.

I had seen a bit of Ironman on TV but not paid a lot of attention.

I don't know what references I missed of course!
