Family holiday destination ideas - don't know where to start

catinboots99 · 23/07/2019 17:07

Next year is a significant birthday for both me and DS1. We are planning a weeks long family holiday in August next year.

The hol will be for me, DS1 and GF (21), my parents (70s), my Dsis and three kids 9,10 and 12.

Previous successful hol as a fam was at centre parks. Lots of things for people to do and not necessarily together.

This time we want to go abroad - Europe is probably in our budget. But I've got no idea of where to start looking. I love Italy. The kids are asking for Greece for some reason (none of them have been there!)

Please help

What is the budget?

ohcanada · 23/07/2019 17:43

Italy is very overpriced.

What about Spain? Good value for money, beautiful, great food and easy to get around. Just pick a really good location that's not very touristy. If it were me with that group, I'd hire a car and a villa, somewhere in the south of Spain.

2-3k for accommodation? Does that sound unrealistic?

Flights and spends to be met by everyone individually

Have you looked at Eurocamp? South of France, northern Spain, beautiful Brittany....choose your site carefully as they're all different- La Garangeoire is busy, sporty, active and with pools.

zafferana · 23/07/2019 18:43

When you say £2-3k for accommodation, is that for everyone (i.e. six adults and three DC?).

If you liked Center Parcs then I'd look for something similar in Europe - there are actually Center Parcs in Europe (France, Germany, Belgium, Holland), or if you want to go further afield then look at Eurocamp (those countries plus Italy, Spain, Portugal and Croatia).

If you want to see if you can get a hotel package then try Jet2 holidays, On the Beach, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia ...

I would look for either one big villa with pool or different apartments in a shared villa complex in Spain or possibly Greece.

Spain: flights probably cheaper. Look at places served by more than one airline (competition) .

Malaga for Nerja for example, or Cala de Mijas

Any particular interests that anyone has?

catinboots99 · 23/07/2019 21:10

Yes we looked at Eurocamp as we've all enjoyed camping in the past, but would probably have to get two or three units so maybe not as cheap as you would think.

No real specified activities part form the norm. Kids love swimming, bike riding etc. Me and Dsis like a mixture of sunbathing and local culture. Parents and DS1/GF like eating out and drinking x

Id get a villa. Majorca and Menorca both lovely. Cala n Bosch we love. Jet2 and james villas both good.

Euro camp is one operator running out of parks owned by other people. If you did want to stay in euro camp provided caravans do check trip advisor. Often booking campsites own accmd is better.

For fun check out (spelling) bergen see safari Park, Park lodges looking over animal in Netherlands and also efteling in Netherlands.

They do large accmd, lovely surrounding, plenty for all to do.

See generations there all holidaying.
