Flying back from Tenerife. Can cigarettes go in checked in luggage?

We're flying back to uk from Tenerife and I've bought some cigarettes for a friend here.
Can I pack them in my checked luggage or do they have to go in hand luggage?

I know limit is 200 per adult so we're not over our limit. Just not sure where's best to pack them.

I'd put them in the case

granadagirl · 22/07/2019 21:43

You can put them in the case, but make sure you have s lock on it
As luggage does get opened when not locked properly

Redtartanshoes · 22/07/2019 21:43

Case is fine

We never have locked cases

Thanks all.
Checked in cases will be locked so I'll get them in there somehow.

I hate packing to go home Sad

Don’t tell them they’re for a friend. They have to be for your own use.

I think they can be a gift but you're not allowed to get the money back for them, so if asked, say they're a gift if you don't want to say they are yours.

When DF was alive and DP smoked, we regularly brought cigarettes and tobacco back from Spain, Gibraltar and the Canaries, and no-one ever asked about it.
