I only realised this tonight, looking at the horrendously dusty light fitting. We've never changed it in all the years we've been here. To be fair, it's a well lit landing (massive window) & city light pollution means you can see where you're going even at night. & our tumble drier, may it last forever, has provided sterling service for the last 20yrs & at our worst we thrashed it with 14 loads a week (thank you dc). What appliances have you got that seem to go on forever?

My long life 25,000 on/off light bulbs lasts a year😂totally shit!

My tumble dryer is18, stillgoing.

RightMover · 22/07/2019 22:05

Wow that's good going!
My Mam bought a new hoover yesterday..her old one was 16! I've gone through 4 in that time 🤷‍♀️

My parents have a slow cooker which has just celebrated its 45th birthday! The pilot light doesn’t work anymore and all of the settings on the dial have worn off but it still makes the best chicken casserole.

DH loves telling dc that his calculator has lasted since he was 7, he is now 46, with no battery change. As you can imagine the dc are fascinated by this often repeated story Grin

Bedside table bulb - 12 years. Was supposed to be 10 so 2 years+ and counting!

PajamasnoDramas · 22/07/2019 22:53

My mum’s combi-microwave is still going strong, bought in 1992. My hairdryer must be going 15 years now - used at least twice weekly.

Longdistance · 22/07/2019 22:57

I’ve had my broom for 20 years. The broom has had 17 new heads and 14 new handles. Does that count?

I’ll get my coat...

DogbertDogglesworth · 22/07/2019 23:03

My washing machine is 32 years old and still going strong, despite being used daily.
My food mixer is 46 years old and still used almost daily. (It was my mum's )

dalmatianmad · 22/07/2019 23:05

My Bosch washing machine lasted 17 years, used every day. Was gutted when it died earlier this year....

TeaandSunshine · 22/07/2019 23:06

The light bulb in our downstairs loo was there when we bought the house in 1993. I sometimes wonder if it will out live me

InsertFunnyUsername · 22/07/2019 23:07

My hairdryer is on its 15th year, it started making a funny noise a while ago and i thought oh no. But she came back stronger than ever 😉

FrangipaniBlue · 22/07/2019 23:08

Tumble dryer and Dyson hoover were both purchased when we bought out house 19 years ago!

Mind the Dyson is getting a bit like Triggers Brush........

DramaAlpaca · 22/07/2019 23:10

My Bosch dishwasher lasted 18 years. I was sad to see it go & I don't reckon its replacement, another Bosch, will last as long.

I have a food mixer that must be 50 years old, it was my DM's.

Oh, and a 30 year old fridge freezer that's still going strong.

Frith2013 · 22/07/2019 23:13

My landing light bulb is over 15 years old as well!

My piano is about 85.

Whisky2014 · 22/07/2019 23:15

Now you've said it, op, it will blow this week!

RoseMartha · 22/07/2019 23:42

Microwave is 22 years old. Washing machine 14 years old.

Ferfeckssake · 22/07/2019 23:48

My tumble dryer is 22 years old. It is still great and does a better job than any I have used.
Have a set of glass casserole dishes that I got as a wedding present nearly 30 years old. Used regularly.

mrsfollowill · 23/07/2019 00:19

Oh heck! fridge and freezer are both coming up to 22 yrs old (Miele fridge and Norfrost freezer- who I hear you ask!!) had 3 washing machines in that time though 1 Zanussi, 1 hotpoint and now a Bosch .Lightbulbs last about 6 months if we are lucky though Grin Sure the old lightbulbs lasted years and years and they are so flipping expensive now!! Just spent £12.99 on a pack of six- shocking!!

jarviscockatiel · 23/07/2019 00:33

I got my electric bedside clock from a jumble sale when I was 8. I'm now 46 and it's still going strong!

JaimeBronde · 23/07/2019 00:39

Probably tempting fate now
but we've had our microwave 23 years & our Dyson Hoover 15 years now.

JaimeBronde · 23/07/2019 00:44

Oh & our toaster is about 12 years old.
However we get through washing machines every 5 or 6 years.........so due a replacement soon.
Things don't seem to last as long now. My Nan's washing machine bought in 1978 lasted her till 2003!

Livingthedream12345 · 23/07/2019 06:01

I've got my mum's combi microwave that's now 25 years old.

70sCarpet · 23/07/2019 07:26

Don't talk to me about toasters - they don't last 5 mins in my house!

A radio/cassette/alarm bought when I was 16, now 57. Don't think many of the cassettes would still sound as good as I thought they did thenGrin
