New Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson

Congratulations to Jo Swinson on being elected the new Lib Dem leader. Not only the first woman to lead her party, but also representing a part of the UK outside the M25.

So now it's only the Labour Party and the Monster Raving Loony Party that have never had a female leader. (I think the cat who jointly led the MRLP was male).

What a great speech she gave too!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/07/2019 17:19

I'm glad they've elected a woman. However, until they get straight on the biological reality that nobody can change sex, I don't see how I can vote for them (or any other mainstream political party, as none of them have a sensible policy on this).

Lionso · 22/07/2019 17:34

Oh thank goodness, finally someone I can happily vote for!

Does she identify with her birth gender? 🤔

MorrisZapp · 22/07/2019 17:46

She's so woke she's broke. No concern whatsoever for women's sex based rights.

Fibbke · 22/07/2019 17:49

I saw her on question time and thought she was dreadful. Came across as a screechy lightweight. Next.

Herocomplex · 22/07/2019 17:50

Great. But the TWAW nonsense means I’m not on board.

Mrskeats · 22/07/2019 17:51

Woke therefore doesn’t do it for me.

Fibbke · 22/07/2019 17:52

Yes, woke, which to me means unintelligent. Its a big fat NO.

NoBaggyPants · 22/07/2019 17:52

She reminds me of a middle manager that nobody likes.

Every female PM we've had has been abysmal, and as anti-women as can be. I want a leader based on ability, not sex.

Fibbke · 22/07/2019 17:54

She reminds me of a middle manager that nobody likes

🤣🤣🤣

AgentProvocateur · 22/07/2019 17:54

She’s a Tory in disguise. (And my MP). Decent enough person, and was a good enough constituency MP first time round, but voted with the Tories at every possible opportunity.

NoBaggyPants · 22/07/2019 17:56

Her voting record makes for miserable reading.

Good for her! She was a few years behind me at school and a keen member of the debate society. Always makes me smile to see her when I can remember her at school.

Mabelface · 22/07/2019 18:01

Oh, the one that thinks a thatcher statue is a must?

PineappleSeahorse · 22/07/2019 18:07

She's my MP and I can't bear her. I've never forgiven her for voting in favour of keeping the bedroom tax and she's one of those people who think that men belong in women's spaces.

JC4PMPLZ · 22/07/2019 18:09

Just another Tory. No thanks. Why should I be interested in a class enemy just cos she is a woman?

MockerstheFeManist · 22/07/2019 18:10

Sorry Folks

OtraCosaMariposa · 22/07/2019 18:11

She's my MP too (waves to other East Dun people). I liked her a lot as she was the only hope of getting rid of the previous SNP bloke who was as much use as a chocolate teapot.

But she has lost my vote with the whole "trans women are women" soundbites.

Such a pity as on one hand she;s done a lot by introducing shared parental leave and raising the profile of mothers in parliament, on the other throwing the rights of women and girls under the bus to appear "woke".

PancakeAndKeith · 22/07/2019 18:13

Not only the first woman to lead her party, but also representing a part of the UK outside the M25.

Eh? Paddy Ashdown was outside the M25.

SilverySurfer · 22/07/2019 18:14

Isn't it all rather irrelevant? The LibDims are a one policy party who are going nowhere.

MockerstheFeManist · 22/07/2019 18:15

....And Nick Clegg. And Tim Farron, Charlie Kennedy, Ming Campbell, David Steel, Jo Grimond, old uncle Jeremy Thorpe and all...

GnomeoNameo · 22/07/2019 18:15

Tory-in-disguise; terrible voting record; plus parroting "TWAW".

dozy12345 · 22/07/2019 18:18

fantastic news - hoping she can build a remain coalition before the next GE. The Lib Dems are the only ones front and centre of demanding this and always right on the remain-unite message.
