What to send to psychiatric prison

An 18 year old family friend ended up in a psychiatric prison (not UK so you might have a different name for it). She will be kept locked up till she is assessed as treated and safe for herself and others. She has been struggeling with depression and suicide attempts for years so this might take a long while... I really feel for her and want to send her something uplifting. Could be magazines but that might be a bit blah. Does anyone have a better idea?

Having experience with hospitals of this kind, if you send magazines you have to remove the staples (self harm risk).

in the case i know of, plastic that can be used to self harm was a no along with the obvious things such as glass etc.

I normally took in chocolate/sweets, books (may not be a reader but it can distract the mind for a while if she is willing to give it a go).

If you can, ask the hospital for whats allowed, they possibly will help you with this.
