Any suggestions for these tinned fruits..?

I'm bored so decided to clean out my cupboards & have come across the following at the back

Tin cherries, tin peaches, tin pink grapefruit, tin mandarins and a tin of apple slices.

Other than crumble for the others, and just eat the mandarins/grapefruit, does anyone have any suggestions for them?

You could make a peach Melba tray bake with the peaches. Think it's a bbc good food receipe.

lucysmam · 21/07/2019 13:48

@Toomanycats99 I'll look it up, thanks! That'd probably fill the afternoon with dd2 as well.

Custard.

Cherries - cook a chocolate sponge on top so it's like a pretend Black Forest gateau. Eat that one with cream.

Pink grapefruit - what were you thinking when you bought it? Grin. Eat it for breakfast, saves fiddling about with a fresh one.

@TroysMammy I suspect I bought it when dd2 wanted to try a load of different fruits last year, to save having a whole one sitting around. It's just been sitting in the cupboard since

I'll make myself a note to cook the cherries in chocolate sponge for next Sunday's pudding, good idea!

Mumof1andacat · 21/07/2019 13:57

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 21/07/2019 14:38

Kilner jars of vodka with fruit in. By Christmas they will be luscious Grin

orangeshoebox · 21/07/2019 14:40

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/07/2019 14:43

Ooh I have a jar of Luxardo cherries in Kirsch that I bought to make a Black Forest Gateau ..................................it is still waiting Blush but I've got till Dec 2022

Clafoutis for the cherries (basically a sweet batter pudding) looks and tastes better than you might imagine.
Set the mandarins in some orange jelly, very refreshing pudding on hot days. You could put the grapefruit in it as well, the sweet and sour works well. Or make a sorbet or granita with them.
Bake sponge cake mixture with the peaches and apples on the bottom of the baking tin.

YesQueen · 21/07/2019 14:55

Now I want peaches and cold custard Grin

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 21/07/2019 15:07

Freeze some for cold drinks, better and tastier than ice cubes.

PintOfBovril · 21/07/2019 15:48

I stick apple slices in my bircher or overnight oats, few sultanas and plenty of cinnamon, deliciously mushy by the morning.

JamOnTheCarpet · 21/07/2019 16:30

I would probably tip them all into a big bowl and then just eat them. Possibly with some ice-cream.

Frith2013 · 21/07/2019 16:32

You could make an orange jelly and put the mandarin slices in it.

Do a tray bake with the peaches (just a sponge mix on top).

Make a claufoutis with the cherries. It’s basically cherry toad in the hole!

Frith2013 · 21/07/2019 16:33

@fadedred obviously lives in my house!!

FadedRed · 21/07/2019 16:50

@Frith2013 Are you me?
(Great minds etc etc 😁)

shinynewapple · 21/07/2019 20:08

Drain off peach slices and blitz with some milk and banana for peach smoothie

KurriKurri · 21/07/2019 20:36

I use tinned grapefruit to make a grapefruit walnut and celery salad.

mandarins - in a jelly or an orangy trifle - make the jelly using the juice form the can

Cherries you could make a kind of cherry Eton mess with cream and merigue pieces
Or a cherry clafoutie which is basically cherries with a yorkshire pudding mix poured over it and baked until the batter goes brown and puffs up.

Apple slices - an apple pie or an apple cake/apple muffins, or apple charlotte which is bread crumbs cooked in butter/marg and sugar until crispy and then layered with the apples and baked in the oven.

Millie2013 · 21/07/2019 20:39

Echo cherry clafoutis, you won’t regret it Grin
