Does anyone do their own highlights at home?

Does anyone do their own highlights at home? Do you have any tips?

I have really long hair and would like to highlight it.

My DDs, 23 and 20 used to do each other's bayalage. It honestly looked fantastic. They are both quite arty/crafty though and good at that sort of thing in general.

I think they just watched a few videos, got plenty of grips and all the other equipment, and did very small sections of hair. I know once DD1 had some done one day, then decided she wanted a bit more next day, so they went quite cautiously.
