going back in time

If you could go back in time as a visitor for a day when you would go back to and why?

Would you just observe or would you do something which would alter the course of history ?

If I could go back in time and somehow prevent the transatlantic slave trade, I would.

I know I am stating the very obvious but changing even the tiniest thing would ultimately jeopardise your very existence and so you wouldn't be here to go back and blah blah blah.

So what would happen to you - would you disappear in a puff of green smoke?

If it was possible to travel back in time you would have to be extraordinarily careful not to do anything that could affect the future.

You might think "I will kill Hitler thus saving millions of lives" - but what if you return to the present to find that even more people died BECAUSE you changed the course of history??

Any interaction has the potential for disaster. Luckily time travel not possible and hopefully never will be.

I’d go back to wherever I needed to to do whatever I needed to to stop my dad developing Parkinson’s when I was 12. He mostly worked away until then, then his health declined very quickly. I just would have liked to have known him. I have next to no memories of him.

Or the World Cup final last year, and make Croatia win. My French BiL has been unbearable since France won the World Cup on his birthday last year!!

Yes @isitwhatitis, that's exactly what would happen Grin. Actually you would probably just fade away whilst you were killing on stage and blowing the minds of your parents at the enchantment under the sea dance.

Luckily time travel not possible and hopefully never will be.

How do you know that it hasn't already become possible in the future and our current reality is the result? Grin

I'd go back to the Bronze Age. Or possibly the Neolithic, although I don't think there'd be much to choose between them.

I just want to smell what air was like before any pollution. And see the landscape.
