What are your teenagers reading?

My Dd is 14 next week and asked for a fiction book about dragons.

My dd is dyslexic so historically has read books below her actual age. She is however a voracious reader and is now quite able to read most things with ease.

She had also requested a manga book - naruto which i believe is age appropriate.

Waterstones have books 9-2 years and I found one about dragons but i felt it wasn't beefy enough, she would read it in a day. So found one in the "young adult" section. It starts with a murder which im a bit dubious as dd is a sensitive soul.

I am not wanting to censor what dd reads bit am curious as to what level of violence and sex would be in young adult books as i don't believe dd would want to read this.

At that age I was reading Stephen king, James Herbert and Jackie Collins!!

I wondered this too, but it seems quite common in this age range. My DS os also quite sensitive but seems Ok with books maybe as they know it is just fiction. Maybe have a look in the library young adults section, the librarians can be helpful there as well, for some ideas.

My 14yo reads tonnes of teen dystopian stuff -most of it dreadful. She is far from being sensitive about fictional deaths etc tho.
