Waiting for booking appointment with midwife

Hi guys. I think I'm 12+ weeks pregnant with my 5th child I'm absolutely huge . I put my form in at the drs to book in with midwife 3 weeks ago. After phoning drs 4 times over the past week still haven't heard anything, the receptionist said if I hear nothing ring back Monday afternoon to speak to midwife, she says they have definitely picked up my form. I asked if I could ring hospital to speak to midwife she says no they should be in touch soon🤔. But with every pregnancy I have definitely been into see midwife before now. TIA

Do you know your LMP and cycle length?

You need your dating scan before 13 weeks 6 days in order to be offered the "combined test" for foetal abnormalities, so this isn't good enough. I suggest you make a formal complaint via PALS at the hospital you're booked at. Ring them today. I had to do the same when I was offered my first scan appointment on a date when I'd be almost 15 weeks pregnant. Kick up a fuss and make it clear you know you need to have your booking bloods and dating scan before 13 weeks 6 days.

Thank you for reply. I do feel like I'm getting no where keep phoning my drs. This is ridiculous I thought midwifes were supposed to get you in for booking appointment ASAP. It is worrying knowing that I should have blood tests done etc x

It might be that your doctors have nothing to do with it. Depending on the trust you might need to call a hospital or birth centre of community team instead, and your gp may not know other than who to send the form to. Have you moved since your last? Or maybe the system has changed.

If you don't mind saying the trust (and you're sure it's the right one), someone might be able to give you the right phone number. It really just sounds like you're not talking to the right person, through no fault of your own.

Also while you obviously need the blood tests, presumably nothing new genetically will come up, so unless you're at risk of std of have symptoms of low iron then you're okay to wait a few weeks, with some those tests are done with your scan anyway.

Do they know you think you're so far along?

Call the antenatal clinic at the hospital. The screening for Downs etc can only be done up to a certain gestation so the scan at least needs to be booked in asap. The midwife appointment should be done before 13 weeks (and ideally before the scan), but isn't so time critical. But the antenatal clinic are the best people to get all that in motion for you, not your GP surgery.

Been a while since I was Pg but what about nuchal fold scan? Those are date sensitive aren't they?

That's very short notice. I certainly couldn't get time off work at 2 working days' notice! Anyway, glad you've got an appointment.
