My 16 year old grandson has just started a weekend job and gets a quite substantial £55 a weekend.
I want him to get the most out of his money.
I’m quite disappointed that there’s no discount scheme for the 16-18 year olds
He will be a college student in September for two years.

Unless any mnetters know different.

Also we need to know the best bank to open an account...even if just for freebies

He’s such a gorgeous lad. His parents can’t afford to spoil him so I want to see him get the biggest bang for his bucks

We’re in ne uk

Have a look at moneysavingexpert.,com. They'll have some good recommendations re bank accounts and also discounts for teens.

according to my DD: he can get a NUS student card as long as he has a school email address, it's a one off £12 (i think) payment and you can show it in loads of shops and get discounts.

He could also sign up for unidays (doesnt have to be at uni, can do it when hes in college) which is an app and you get discount codes for online. i think some shops let you use it in store as well. Smile

Thank you buzzbee
Does seem a tad unfair that this group of students, many of whom have part time jobs miss out.

Santander 123 account. 1% on £100, 2% on £200, and 3% on £300 up. My 15 year old has an account but never managed to keep any money in it 😂😂

NUS card for discounts in tons of restaurants and shops

Dowser · 16/07/2019 23:07

Yes was thinking of Santander also
I thought nus cards were for 18 year olds going to uni

10% off Co-Op, 30% off Pizza Express and Zizzi, 10% off ASOS, Beyond Retro, 20% off Fila, discounts at Las Iguanas, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Carluccios, 25% off cinema tickets at ODEON

It's £12 one off the the card. I used to use mine at Topshop all the time and lots of places might not advertise they accept them but if you ask they often do

NUS card is available to students aged 16 or over, studying full or part-time in further or higher education

bettytaghetti · 17/07/2019 00:18

Think he can also sign up to StudentBeans for discounts.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 17/07/2019 06:12

Dd has an app thing called uni days that gets her discounts about the place. She had to have an email address at a place of learning to register iirc.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 17/07/2019 06:13

But schools count as well as unis
