Do I want a Roomba? And if so which one?

Prime have a sale on and the 960 is down to £500. Or do I want another brand that’s far cheaper?
We have hard floors throughout, no pets. Also can I take it up and downstairs or do I need 2?
I know I need one but I don’t know if I need to spend a stupid amount or not

Or the neato d750?

I have binned my Roombas and replaced them with low profile Eufys that can get properly under my furniture. Cheaper and much better IMO

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2019 11:28

I'd love a robot vacuum and am tempted as there are some Eufys in the Prime Day thing, but I have cats and if I also had a vacuum cleaner that sprang to life when no-one was around and disturbed their sleep and chased them around the house, I think they'd report me to the RSPCA.

@thebossofme which Roombas did you have and which Eufy’s did you change them for?

We just got the 695 (because it was on sale) at £280, partly as an experiment. I like it a lot at that price, but I'd be pissed if I'd spent more, and I'm not convinced that a more expensive one would be better.

Pros: it does under the bed and sofas; it keeps the dirt down in the high traffic areas; I'm much more likely to actually use it than the hoover, it's plenty light enough to pick up and move if I want it to do a particular room.
Cons: it's really stupid; the app is shite; it often drops out from the WiFi; it only finds its way home about 60% of the time; it's really annoying if you're at home with its bumping and whirring and knowing you could do the same job more thoroughly in a fifth of the time (but you can leave it on when you go out); it misses bits of rooms and gets stuck behind doors. Its cleaning ability would certainly not satisfy a clean freak, but it's good enough for a lazy sod like me (70% cleaning vs no cleaning!).

I really wouldn't get a high end one like the 900 series. You're mostly paying for the tech, and based on the 600 series, it won't work most of the time anyway and will make very little difference to its cleaning ability.

I have 3. My favourite is the Eufy that is currently £210 on Amazon. Don’t bother paying out extra for WiFi or remote controls. Why ever brand you opt for the build and and suction is identical on all of that brand so you don’t get better performance from the more expensive ones.

I can never find the remotes when I need them and it is so easy to turn them with the press of a button I have never felt the need to seek out the remotes

DSIL bought a fancy top of the range WiFi one but as PP have said it’s not that reliable.

Although the idea of programming them to run around and do all the work when you are out is appealing, in practice I find it just as easy to turn them on manually and let them burble around while I’m home. Then I’m on hand to rescue it if it sucks up a mislaid coin or hair ribbon or traps itself under the cooker. Sometimes it’s like having a helpful pet around!

I have a 612 and it's bloody awesome! Never really bother to program it, I just turn it on before I leave for the day or when I'm at home. It amuses the toddler greatly (he likes to start and stop it, chase it round, put toys on it), so is sometimes a bit of a babysitter when I'm making dinner 😂 . When the toddler was a baby the noise would make him go to sleep 💗

Oh and it does keep the house tidy- with two cats we use it daily! As soon as there is one that can handle stairs i am buying it!

I love my Neato so much, that his name is my MN name (you give them their own name). He's one year old next week and he's been life changing. I thank him every day for his unwavering service. Did loads of research before I got him, and Neato seemed the best for money. If he died, I'd replace him immediately.

madrush · 16/07/2019 12:46

I've got a roomba and a neato. They're both great but I wouldn't pay extra for higher up models of either. The extras tend to be fussy things that aren't of any value to me. I find Roomba takes far longer to clean a room (much more random movement) but suction, especially on dog hairs, is slightly better. I like it that I can really empty out Roomba's plastic filters and keep using them rather than replacing - harder to do on neato so more landfill waste created.

TreeSunset · 16/07/2019 14:29

I’m veering towards the neato on prime day. As can have floor plans for different levels.
Which neato’s do you have?
Where do you buy replacement filters or an extra dock from? Couldn’t see them on amazon

OP posts:
madrush · 17/07/2019 07:45

My Neato floorplan only saves if I keep the base in same location - I can’t (up/downstairs) so it is of no value. I think mine is a 600 or 700. I’m pretty sure I’ve had filters from amazon

madrush · 17/07/2019 07:47

Mine is d4 I think

madrush · 17/07/2019 07:48

No a d5 - who knew I had a turbo mode?

TreeSunset · 17/07/2019 07:53

Oo, I want to see what your turbo mode does. I went for the d750 and says it says multiple floor plans

OP posts:
madrush · 17/07/2019 13:26

“Super powered with maximum pickup” - looks exactly the same as normal to me 🤔 I hope your multiple floor plans works - mine can store multiple but not if you want based in different places so I can’t do an upstairs and a downstairs one. It’s no real hassle to close the odd door/move a chair in front of tv cables etc

TreeSunset · 17/07/2019 15:16

I needed one could move between upstairs and downstairs so went for ones with the multi floor plan.
Amazons on a go slow with prime day so will have to wait a bit longer to get it.

We have the entry level Eufy. Best birthday present ever.

I put it on first thing then spray mop before work.
