Where to go for a one night stay?

So my birthday is coming up (August) and we have childcare for a night away, But we can't decide where to go, must be within a 3 hour drive of Suffolk, any suggestions?

Is Stratford upon Avon in your distance (sorry, pants at geography)? It's lovely.

There are lots and lots of possibilities and we haven’t got much to go on.
Do you like walking, history, sports or something lively. A night in London can be amazing and Britain has some fabulous coastlines with lots of history.
Personally I like London, Portsmouth, Brighton and Southwold/Aldburgh. The Cotswolds is within striking distance.

@QuitMoaning I have done London lots of times, southwold and aldeburgh I live near! But Portsmouth and Brighton may be a option!
