Travel system, when to use car seat and when to use bassinet?

We have a travel system with a bassinet and a car seat. I'm just wondering when to use each? DH keeps saying there's no point bringing the big bassinet out when we can just pop baby's car seat onto the chassis much easier. I thought for newborns the bassinet would be safer and better for naps etc? Am I right in saying for short trips, like nipping into a shop etc the car seat is fine to be clipped onto the chassis but for longer outings, the bassinet?

Pet hate of mine seeing babies wheeled about in car seats for hours, when they’re probably already in the car seat for half an hour each way in the car.

I would always use a bassinet unless it was literally a 5 minute pop in somewhere. Even then, I’d be more inclined to use a sling.

Car seats are for the car.

Use the bassinet for anything over 20 minutes...

If it's a long car journey then use the bassinet anyway!

If I was out for less than two hours, we took the car seat out. We only lived a ten minute drive from our main shopping centre though. If it was going to be longer than a couple of hours, the pram went on. I always thought he would be more comfortable lying down but I also didn’t want to wake a sleeping baby just to go round Tesco and then home again.

I'd always use the bassinet. The baby will probably wake anyway when trying to get the carseat out of the car.
