Is there any benefit to protecting a 1 year no-claims bonus (CAR INSURANCE)? i.e. paying ~£20 for this protection?

At £20 it might be, but it really depends on the small print of the policy.

Our car insurance only offers no claims protection on 4 or more years with no claims and in the event of an accident we lose a small amount of our no claims years but it obviously doesn't go back down to zero.

Well yes, as next year you can say you have 2 years etc etc.
You can build up the years.

Thanks so far both but surely, someone wouldn't need to protect their 1 year this year to say they've got 2 years next year? As a lot of insurers don't protect less than 4 years so you must be able to accumulate 4 years of no claims bonus without protecting it each year?
