We are moving house on Wednesday so big on lists right now. Got all the obvious ones like utilities and royal mail redirection Informing school and ensuring friends knows :)

I just did our NT membership (as you can do that online) and it made me wonder
What little thing did you forget about when you moved? Change of addresses or other stuff Might helps us :)

Driver's license is still on my list to sort out three months after moving day... Grin

That someone needs to get to the new house before the movers, to collect the keys from the estate agent! Hadn't occurred to us the agent wouldn't come to the house nor give keys to the movers, until the movers said "see you there so you can let us in"! We'd been planning to stay and clean the house which looked filthy after all the white goods and furniture had been removed after years, but instead had to drive off immediately.

As it happened, we had our cleaner there too and asked her to do an hour in the kitchen as best she could without a hoover, then get the Tube to the new house, so it wasn't left too bad, but couldn't believe no-one had asked who was going to get the keys and when.

Also change your address on Amazon, Ebay, and online supermarkets, before you get tempted into a one-click order. My ex-lodgers always seem to forget!

StCharlotte · 13/07/2019 09:39

A whole fitted wardrobe full of clothes. Involved an embarrassing return trip.

MadamBatty · 13/07/2019 09:49

It takes 3 times longer to do anything than you estimate. Do anything you can do now.

Enko · 13/07/2019 09:52

@StCharlotte that made me laugh :)

WE have Amazon sorted but do need to do Ebay and Etzy

Keys are not a issue that is under control..

& Driving licence is on the list :)

Not what I forgot about but some advice I was given a long time ago.

As soon as you move in, have your 1 or 2 moving in box ready and put it in your car not with the movers

Make your beds up as soon as you can, you will be shattered later on and its a pain to start doing this later in the day, but then you can just fall into bed.

Also in the moving box, kettle, tea/coffee/sugar/biscuits/cups
Toilet roll
Kitchen roll
Towels and a toilet bag with essentials soap/toothbrushes/paste etc
Medication headache tabs (an essential for me)
Bedding for above!
A file or box with important documents in passport etc.
Dont forget a bottle of wine and some glasses!!!!

We ended up having to put loads of things in our car which i wasn't expecting as the removal van ran out of space so my carefully packed essentials box was buried and not easily accessible when we arrived to no toilet roll!

MusterTheRohirim · 13/07/2019 10:16

Check the walls. Everything was out of our house and DH and I were doing the goodbye walk round, and as we opened the door to leave I spotted a mirror on the wall! There was absolutely no room in the car so we just left it for the new owner Grin

PayPal address. I ordered something and then realised I hadn't changed my address.

My son was born when they were all gifted money from the government, I forgot to update that.

My husband forgot to do his driving license.

Sandybval · 13/07/2019 10:26

Toilet roll, so the first thing we had to do was a dash to town Blush.

Soola · 13/07/2019 10:43

Garden decor. We left behind a sentimental monkey statue, large fossils, a massive Buddha, a sentimental acorn tree in a pot that my son (child) had started growing, two lawn flamingos that the children had declared as ‘pets’ and used to move around the garden.

Everything was replaceable except for the fossils and the monkey statue which I’m still annoyed about as it was bought as a gift for my son from a relative and imported from America.

We moved hundreds of miles away so couldn’t go back and as we moved in the October we didn’t remember any of them until the next spring.

thekaratekid · 13/07/2019 10:47

Judging by the type of post we have occasion still received for previous owners (4 years down the line).

Pension provider letters
Bank account/credit card letters
Paypal/ebay purchases
Local library
Expensive sport tickets (they knocked for these)...
NHS letters (assume hospital appointment)
Hobby related mail
Christmas cards! Confused
A signed-for bundle of documents! (we refused to accept them)

When they turned up to collect the tickets we asked for a forwarding address which they refused to give?! Hmm Just said return everything to sender...

So maybe consider leaving a forwarding address if you feel comfortable?

Enko · 13/07/2019 12:23

Paypall is a good one I have added that to our list :)

Think about rubbish. I did last minute clearing and cleaning and left the new owners with a completely full wheelie bin, with 4 days to go too bin day. I felt guilty about it, maybe the litre of blue wicked I left in the fridge made up for it!

sueelleker · 14/07/2019 17:49

Hospital if you have regular appointments; we received an appointment letter 6 months after moving in, for the (deceased) father of the vendor.

TeamUnicorn · 14/07/2019 18:25

Not forget, but words of wisdom. Your vacuum cleaner that has worked for years, will, without warning or explaination will suddenly stop working.Confused

LostInNorfolk · 14/07/2019 18:41

One of my friends forgot their children. They were at school.

Bundled pets and pre- schoolers into the car and set off after the van.

Medicaltextbook · 14/07/2019 18:44

Label charging leads or make sure they stay with their item together with plug adapter - electric tooth brush, phone, tablets.

If you have repeat prescriptions and are moving gp see if they will extend the length of prescription. Some GPS are very busy so can take time to get an appointment and that’s after the paperwork to join is completed.
