Just now I was contemplating a bag I saw This morning shopping. Then thought I'd get it and drove 20 miles bought it then drove home again. I literally had to have it then. Now I've got it
I do this alot do others ?

No. At the risk of sounding preachy, that kind of behaviour is partly why the planet’s so fucked.

bankcapital · 12/07/2019 18:31

@FourEyesGood That doesn't sound preachy, it sounds fucking ridiculous.

ProseccoSupernova · 12/07/2019 18:33

Didn’t take long for someone to suck all the fun out of the thread! Hmm

Ounce · 12/07/2019 18:33

Nah. I’m not a slave to ridiculous consumerist impulses.

FourEyesGood · 12/07/2019 18:34

A 40-mile drive for a bag that the OP presumably just wants (rather than needs)? And she does this a lot? That’s fucking ridiculous.

raspberryk · 12/07/2019 18:35

No I'm lazy I would have ordered it online.

Loopytiles · 12/07/2019 18:36

Why didn’t you want to wait?

Shockers · 12/07/2019 18:36

I like a spur of the minute adventure, but never to buy a bag!

(Tbf, 40 miles of emissions is also ridiculous when the OP could’ve phoned the shop and had it sent out, bankcapital)

colourlessgreenidea · 12/07/2019 18:36

Which bit of it sound ridiculous?

FourEyesGood · 12/07/2019 18:37

I would have ordered it online.

But she literally (yes, literally) had to have it then.

nitgel · 12/07/2019 18:37

Well I do need it to be fair and usually I wouldn't drive that far but they'd sold out online and it was in the john lewis sale

I'm the same where I obsess over something so small and I will have to get it done there and then. E.g returning a faulty item.
I can't relax until I've gone and done it

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 12/07/2019 18:49

Yes.

I'm a total fucking slave to consumerism. I hate it.

If I see an advert for a particular food, I can't stop thinking about it until I have it. Even if it's months, I have a hankering.

If I've decided that I want a new top, I will go there and then. I'm impatient AF and I want it yesterday.

I do loads of stuff on the spur of the moment.

I started my degree on the spur of the moment, like a light switched and I just did began the process out the blue.

Same with moving very far away from home, same with travelling.

It's like a lightblub idea flicks and I have to do it NOW.

bankcapital · 12/07/2019 18:54

^ Erm, all of it...? It's not like the OP fucking flew. Direct all your green rage towards those filling up aircraft day in, day out. She needed it, she went and got it. Even if she'd ordered online, what's the carbon footprint of getting it ordered and delivered? Hmm? Do you know what car the OP drives? She could be in a Tesla or a Nissan Leaf. So suggesting her bag drive is fucking the planet is ridiculous. Get over yourselves.

newmomof1 · 12/07/2019 19:04

Wow aren't you so spontaneous and fun

colourlessgreenidea · 12/07/2019 19:12

Why so nasty and aggressive, sweetheart? Hmm

nitgel · 12/07/2019 19:12

Blimey this was just meant to be a nice chat thread.

I do that sort of thing! Went shopping v v heavily pregnant once. Few days later couldn't stop thinking about some earrings I'd seen in TKMaxx. Had to have them! Drove back 15 miles each way on my due date to buy them! Still love them and wear them loads. My DH describes me as "hyper focused" when I get an idea in my head, can't rest or think of anything else til it's done! Always been the same. Find it hard with two small DC as it's so hard to be spontaneous. Tried leaving the house to go for a spur of the minute scoot/bike ride today... by the time nappies were changed, wees done and hands washed, shoes on, suncream on, bikes etc out the garage it felt like an epic mission not just a fun pop out!

Stamz · 12/07/2019 19:19

Sorry op but I find that ridiculous. Are these spur of the moment things always shopping related?

bankcapital · 12/07/2019 19:19

Why so nasty and aggressive, sweetheart?

^ Banging retort. Well done you.

I'm not nasty or aggressive, just sick of the bullshit pearl-clutching and virtue signalling that people like to lord over others on here.

ColouringPencils · 12/07/2019 19:19

I can feel the urge to do this, but tbh I get a kick out of deferred gratification and rarely end up buying anything at all. I like to be spontaneous in terms of going out and doing things though.

ProseccoSupernova · 12/07/2019 19:26

Why so nasty and aggressive, sweetheart?

Why so patronising, darling?!

colourlessgreenidea · 12/07/2019 19:27

Why so patronising, darling?!

Because I asked a question and was met with entirely unjustified vitriol.

colourlessgreenidea · 12/07/2019 19:33

Why did you direct it towards me?

nitgel · 12/07/2019 19:33

Well now every time I use my bag I'll be reminded if how I'm killing the planet by being fun and spontaneous Wink
