Is this eczema, an allergy or rash?

DT1 (nearly 3, non verbal, ASD) randomly burst into tears half an hour ago (not like him at all). I went to change his nappy and the back of his legs look like this.

Both twins used to get awful eczema as babies but since they’ve been dairy free (nearly 2 years) they’ve barely had any. Occasionally he will get a small patch.

He had chicken pox about a month ago now, and he’s been itching more ever since. I’ve noticed his tummy looking a bit like early stages of eczema patches, but these patches seem to have come from nowhere - I didn’t notice anything when I changed him a few hours ago.

It could be a combo of the heat and scratching? I thought maybe a reaction to sun cream but he doesn’t have it anywhere else.

I’ve given him some antihistamine to help with the itching and put one some anti-itching cream.

It doesn’t look like an illness type rash to me so I think it’s probably eczema.

Any other ideas? If it’s still as bad tomorrow will take him to the pharmacy and get them to look at it, or the doctors if he develops any other symptoms.

Looks like eczema. Make sure you get him a good emollient - ointment rather than cream, though either might present sensory challenges in which case you could try the Aveeno spray.

Thanks - that’s what I thought but it’s been a while. Have used some epaderm ointment and I have some hydrocortisone so will see how it’s looking.

Looks like eczema to me too. Coconut oil is working well for my son at the moment.
