Birthday present for 1 year old boy - any ideas appreciated!

I've been invited to an old friend's son's first birthday party and I have no idea what to take as a present.
I haven't met the little boy yet at as they've been living abroad until now, so I'm not sure what he'd like.
I don't have a massive budget but any ideas for something of up to £20 a toddler of that age might like would be much appreciated, although I'm sure he will be more interested in whatever box it comes in!

Push a long or pull along toys. Brio do nice ones.
Shape sorters.
Duplo.
Nice books.
Bubble blowing machine.

A set of wooden ice creams. Honestly they get played with constantly by my kids xxx

You could also look in lidl and aldi. You sometimes get lovely wooden toddler toys in there.

Stacking cups.... or wooden animals and blocks my twins spent hours building 'farms' with blocks and animals.

That's great - thank you everyone, I'm getting an idea of what sort of level of toys are suitable, I'll have a look in the shops on my way home!

If all else fails books is always welcomed by parents and kids. They love the 'that's not my' ones at that age or big lift the flap ones.
