What is this rash on my newborn?

Baby was born on Monday, this evening this spotty rash has appeared on both legs but no where else on body or face. It's a spotty rash, at first it was also red around the spots in patches but that seems to have gone away and now the spots remain!

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Ds had one spot that looked like that at 5 days old. It was staphylococcus. He needed an antibiotic.

Phone the hospital. Baby is too young to take a wait and see approach.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.

Hawkmoth · 10/07/2019 23:10

Please go straight to the hospital. It may be nothing but they won't mind with a baby so new.

BunnyTeapot · 10/07/2019 23:10

Call the hospital. Baby is far too young for anyone on here to advise and theyll want to see him asap

ozymandiusking · 10/07/2019 23:13

Take the baby to hospital, ASAP Congratulations on their birth Xx

QueenofPain · 10/07/2019 23:13

Probably Erythema Toxicum Neonatorum (known as “rash of the newborn”). Common, and harmless.

HOWEVER, I would advise you still get it checked and confirmed.

Soola · 10/07/2019 23:15

I would get your baby looked at ASAP given their age and that it looks like something in their blood causing the rash. What I mean is that it looks like something internal has caused it rather than external such as a contact dermatitis or prickly heat type of rash.

I had dreadful rash when I had pneumonia.

Hope everything will be ok

IncrediblySadToo · 10/07/2019 23:21

I’d have been in A&E immediately - your baby is only days old - I take no chances!

I hope it is just a normal baby rash - they can be very spotty and rash-y

If you find the sleepless nights you can pop them over to me by courier this’d newborn squishy little legs are gorgeous!!

Let us know how you get on

TrixieFranklin · 10/07/2019 23:30

Thank you DH phoned the transitional care ward we were discharged from and they're happy for us to go straight back to them as it's only just more than 24 hrs since our discharge so fingers crossed will get some answers from them or they can arrange for the right person to look.

Thank you!

Morning
Just a quick update - when we got to the hospital (about 40 mins away) about 80% of the spots had vanished but we showed them the photos and what was left and they kept us in to keep an eye on him and do some observations and we've been sent home.
It's was in their opinion newborn prickly heat / heat rash spots and nothing to overly worry about.

Thank you so much for all the advice we really really appreciate it! The midwife is due to visit us this afternoon so will keep an eye on it later with us too.

Back to newborn snuggles Grin

Thank goodness all is well.

IncrediblySadToo · 11/07/2019 07:58

That’s great it was just normal baby spotty rash-y stuff, but you can’t be too careful when they’re so tiny!

Deeply envious of newborn snuggles & don’t forget my ‘offer’ 😊

TrixieFranklin · 11/07/2019 08:25

@IncrediblySadToo I will find a stamp big enough and pop him straight in the post to you Grin

Thank you trixie I’ll be happy to send a courier though Christ only knows where he might end up with Royal Mail!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 11/07/2019 10:04

Hi OP I'm glad you got seen and enjoying your newborn snuggles.

My newborn (now 6 months) was the same.
He was a very very sweaty newborn and this heat and sweat caused these rashes.

TrixieFranklin · 11/07/2019 11:08

The midwife has been to visit and had a good look and agreed with what was said in the night, said good advice to go and get checked with any rashes or fast changes and to keep an eye and let them know if anything changes.

Thank you all again!!!

@IncrediblySadToo Here's a photo so you know what to look out for in the post Grin
