Asda, Morrison's, Tesco, Waitrose or Sainsbury's?

No particular flavour although preference would be chocolate.

M&S all the way!

GlamGiraffe · 10/07/2019 19:17

M&s. The chocolate one with stars on.

GlamGiraffe · 10/07/2019 19:18

Oh, and absolutely NOT Waitrose chocolate one which is a similar looking copy to the above mentioned marks and sparks one!

FredaFox · 10/07/2019 19:22

Any from M&S but especially Colin and Connie 🐛

GreenTulips · 10/07/2019 19:23

I think the M&S cakes are dry and horrid!

cheercaptain · 10/07/2019 19:25

Another vote for M&S Choc Cake

Fatted · 10/07/2019 19:27

The £5 tray bake one from Asda is actually the best birthday cake I've ever tasted. They do a jelly bean version as well which is very popular in our house too!

BernardoTeashop · 10/07/2019 19:28

Aldi - beautifully decorated, tastes amazing and only £3.49

BackInTime · 10/07/2019 19:33

M&S cakes are sickly sweet but look great.

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2019 19:53

M&S.

If you’ve got 7 days they do a made to order range, with personalised icing messages.

BendingSpoons · 10/07/2019 19:56

A bit pricier but love M&S made to order chocolate one with chocolate sprinkles on the outside and milk, white and dark chocolate sponge.

Leggyfrog · 10/07/2019 19:57

M&s Percy pig mud cake is divine!

Lifebi · 10/07/2019 20:29

and some people think Mumsnet is middle class!

stoplickingthetelly · 10/07/2019 20:38

The M&S one with stars is a lovely chocolate cake. There’s also a Thornton’s one in Asda that’s also very good.

Worththewait2019 · 10/07/2019 20:41

Well that's a resounding thumbs up for m&s! I'll be going there next week - thank you

M and s jam and cream sponge birthday cakes are excellent. I could happily eat some all year round. The chocolate one they do with the stars is fabulous too.

PTW1234 · 10/07/2019 20:44

Having this debate tonight - M&S for best quality (always!) but for choice any of the big 3 chains!!

We are getting our DS a family cake from m&s for his actual birthday and a Tesco or Asda one for his party

SummerHouse · 10/07/2019 20:44

Lidl do an amazing medira one £3.49 serves 16. Chocolate one also available that I haven't tried yet but taking one to work tomorrow for a birthday.

Paddington68 · 10/07/2019 20:56

M and S, the ones you can order are especially nice.

AngelOfDeathNix · 10/07/2019 23:00

The asda ones that you can print a photo on are delicious

WildIrishRose1 · 10/07/2019 23:28

OP I bought a Connie the Caterpillar cake from M&S today (for my own birthday😐). I thought it was very dry, tbh. I only bought it for the kids really, I wasn't bothered. I preferred the Aperol spritz I had before dinner.

EskewedBeef · 10/07/2019 23:32

I normally get a Colin, but I went for a white chocolate and strawberry cake last time and we all really liked it. I've never thought Col is dry, but I do always dig to the back of the shelf for the longest date Grin
