Applying for passports for two DDs. Do I list their place of birth as London or the district/borough they were born!? Can't find any help online. TIA.

OP posts:
Macarena1990 · 09/07/2019 22:38

Can't remember what mine or my dd1 says (both born in London) but ds1 and dd2's says Hammersmith.

Eaudear · 09/07/2019 22:39

I'm sure mine just says London.

LouiseHumphreys81 · 09/07/2019 22:47

I was born in Guys in early 80s, my passport and birth certificate say Southwark.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 09/07/2019 22:49

I have hamersmith and Fulham 😊

Hadenoughofitall441 · 09/07/2019 22:52

And DS says london borough of Ealing

CondeNasty · 09/07/2019 22:55

The Farnborough/Bromley one seems to be a common one. My DH has Bromley his DB has Farnborough and their passports were done at the same time.

Thymejuice · 09/07/2019 22:55

My birth certificate has the borough and district but passport just says London. My parents had just London on their passports too, I think.

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2019 22:57

I was born in London.
My birth certificate says ”Hammersmith”, but my passport has always said London.

Mixingitall · 09/07/2019 22:59

Ds1’s birth certificate and passport both state the area, rather the borough or London.

DS2’s birth certificate and passport both state our tiny village rather than the County.

It depends what you complete when you file the paperwork.

NoLeopard · 09/07/2019 23:06

Love all the anomalies! I have both short and long birth certificates. One says London and the other City of London (born in Barts)

tenbob · 09/07/2019 23:08

DS’s just says London...

Tortadellanonna · 09/07/2019 23:13

My Dad’s says Bow, London.

avalanching · 09/07/2019 23:18

This is further complicated when it's a home birth! I believe we but the town's name rather than the borough.

MumInTheCity · 09/07/2019 23:39

Mine says Camberwell, DD’s says Chelsea, so both specific areas rather than boroughs.

Cautionsharpblade · 09/07/2019 23:44

Why would anyone care what borough you were born in? London is so far up its own arse

avalanching · 09/07/2019 23:49

Oh dear, someone didn't get a hug today.

ThighsRelief · 09/07/2019 23:56

Despite writing my son's borough and it being on his BC his passport says London.

I was born abroad and my British passport only gives the country rather than town. Same with my other son.

ViserionTheDragon · 09/07/2019 23:58

Mine says Hammersmith on it. We also have Hammersmith on DS' birth certificate and when applying for his first passport last year, the passport office actually asked whether I wanted it to state Hammersmith or London! So you can choose what it says, OP.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 09/07/2019 23:58

Caution...take it you don’t have a passport then?

Not from London and I get why this question is being asked.

As an aside, some of my DCs were born at Pilgrim Hospital which is in Boston....BC and passport say Fishtoft which is a tiny little village that barely even exists. I assume the hospital is officially in the village border rather than the town of Boston

I’m sure my dad’s just says London

Cautionsharpblade · 10/07/2019 00:07

Yeah I have got a passport (get me). It just says the city I was born in. It’s plenty of information.

To any foreigner requested and required by the Queen to let the bearer pass, ‘London’ will make far more sense than some borough name.

BesselVanDerKolk · 10/07/2019 00:09

DS was born at home in elephant and castle. BC says Southwark, which is what went on his passport.

TheSmallAssassin · 10/07/2019 00:11

Putting London if you were born in Bromley would be pushing it a bit.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 10/07/2019 00:11

Birth certificate says Camden but passport says London.
