Chillys Bottles

MrsPatrickDempsey · 09/07/2019 16:59

Are they really worth the money or are the replica types just as effective? Just seen an identical looking bottle in Tesco for £10.
I am a bit HmmShock at the price of a Chilly one but it is something I would use all the time.
Opinions please.

Ive got several sizes -nothing else lasts .
Worth every penny

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/07/2019 21:18

I loved mine so much that I immediately went out and bought a second. They are heavy though - I keep them at work and wouldn't want to carry them around on a day out.

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2019 21:23

The last time this question came up.someone quoted some research about these bottles and concluded they were almost all.made in the same factory, but your tales of using cheap.vs the real.chillys are interesting. Wilkos were recommended

Lottt · 09/07/2019 21:24

I have a chilly's bottle that I haven't used for a couple of months and the water now seems to taste funny. Anyone got any tricks for giving it a really good clean?

Hockneypool · 09/07/2019 21:25

They are expensive but they work and they last. I use mine for both hot and cold water depending on time of year or location. I like the patterns and colours. Over the last 2 years I have barely bought any water bottles while out and about - so I’m pretty sure it’s paid for itself.

kaitlinktm · 09/07/2019 21:29

My Chillys is good for fizzy drinks too - I know they are disapproved of these days but if I put my fizzy water in a Chillys bottle, the kids can't tell I'm drinking something fizzy when they can't.

Hockneypool · 09/07/2019 21:29

Lottt - how about boiling water and lemon juice/slices of lemon and leave it with the lid off until the water cools. And or bicarbonate of soda and water and leave for a bit.

Lottt · 09/07/2019 21:45

HockeyPool - Good idea- I'll try the lemon slices! Thanks

TranquilityofSolitude · 09/07/2019 21:53

I have a Moon one I bought from Amazon. DH has an SHO and my DDs both have Chillys bottles. There is no discernible difference between them. They all keep water really cold for a long time.

However, I also have a really pretty one from TK Maxx and it doesn't keep water cold for anything like as long as the others. That said, it's a slightly different design with a flat lid.

ittakes2 · 09/07/2019 22:30

Have a million replicas and one Chilly and would buy Chilly again. The rough external surface means less scratches.

Alabasterangel6 · 09/07/2019 22:35

Another vote for wilko. I lost my chilly in work and the wilko was a temp replacement and a year on it’s fine. It’s been dropped and left lying on its side and it’s battered and still fine. Has a nice non-slip feeling outer too, not plasticy.

Loyaultemelie · 09/07/2019 23:06

Proper Chillys are definitely worth the money I bought mine here they are worth watching for offers too got a FOSH one too www.danuworld.com/index/ref/64/

Flurgle · 09/07/2019 23:10

The lid on my Simple Modern one jammed, the TK maxx ones didn’t always keep my water cold and they got chipped and scruffy.
My Chillies one goes to school every day, looks like new after a year and my water is always cool. Worth it.

WeeM · 09/07/2019 23:14

I’ve got a wilko one too-£5 and it’s great. I don’t think they claim to keep stuff cold for as long as the chilly’s ones but I just use it in work so it’s fine for me.

QuestionableMouse · 10/07/2019 09:28

I clean mine with a lot of boiling water and a bit of bleach. I fill it and let it soak overnight (lid off) then tip most of it out and give it a good scrub before rinsing really well.

You can get special cleaning tablets too.

CaptainHammer · 10/07/2019 09:38

I’ve had a few different cheaper before

CaptainHammer · 10/07/2019 09:40

Clearly hadn’t finished that yet!
Try again:

I tried a few cheaper bottles before buying a chilly bottle and it’s far better than the cheaper ones. I love it! It works really well at keeping drinks ice cold and isn’t damaged at all after 5 months of use so far.

OhNoooNotAgain · 10/07/2019 09:45

I've had a chilly's bottle for years- perhaps 4/5. It's awesome! It doesn't flavour water, it keeps ice for way more than 24 hours and I've just bought 3 more (in a different colour and sizes!!!) And they're just as good, but the new coating is much better and less susceptible to damage.

You will not regret it.

Cheaper versions are cheaper for a reason, lower quality materials etc, and you will find most of them are just not as good.

OhNoooNotAgain · 10/07/2019 09:47

Oh and no matter how hot the outside of the bottle is (my old one with the older coating does get too hot to hold if left in the sun) the inside status completely icy!

iknowimcoming · 10/07/2019 09:53

Dh has a genuine, Ive got a Mia tui one, both dd and Ds have Sainsbury's versions, haven't noticed any difference in them so far but early days I guess. Have to add tho that Ds NEVER drinks at school, never has, drives me mad (he's 17 btw) but this morning he actually refilled his water bottle after using the new one since Monday - I nearly passed out with shock!

GetTheStartyParted · 10/07/2019 12:10

I have a chilly, a sho and an Amazon replica. My son uses the cheap version and it's surviving pretty well. I use the other two but prefer the Sho. Both keep drinks cool brilliantly but I like the shape and the paint finish of the Sho one more.
Chilly bottles have more fun designs though.

Letseatgrandma · 06/08/2019 15:08

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old, but those who have a Chillys bottle and say that it keeps ice and drinks cold for hours and hours-would this still happen using it around the pool in the sun-opening and closing it a lot, I mean?

PippaPug · 06/08/2019 16:03

I have a super sparrow (well 3!) bottle form amazon and it’s perfect, different sizes, comes with different lids/carry case and a brush to wash it with plus customer service was fab when one bottle wasn’t keeping as cold as it should of done and replaced it within 48 hours

Gottoloveabagel · 06/08/2019 16:09

I've a Sho one as they are (or were) a bit cheaper! It's brilliant, we all have one now and love that they can sit in the car but keep the water really cold all day! I've not tried any cheaper versions.

My husband has a 1litre one and there was a problem with the lid, the company (a year after purchase) sent a replacement quickly.

evilharpy · 06/08/2019 16:13

I have a couple from aldi that seem to worl perfectly fine and were £2.99. Also bought a couple from TK Maxx for about £5.99 I think and they’re lasting well, my husband uses one for fizzy drinks which you’re not meant to and it doesn’t seem to be causing any problems.

I do love my Klean Kanteens but the sports caps leak terribly.
