Travelling from Winchester to York and want to break the journey somewhere nice - maybe National Trust? - to have something to eat and let the kids run around. Any suggestions?

Attenborough Nature Reserve is 10 minutes from M1 Junction 25. There is so much going on for children and families so its worth checking the website to see if your visit will coincide with one of the many activities. Otherwise, enjoy the beautiful scenery, go for a walk, check out the visitor centre information and displays and grab a bite to eat at the cafe.

The National Space Centre is 4 miles (15 mins) from M1 Junction 21 or 6 miles (13 mins) from M1 21a.

Bolsover Castle is less than 10 mins from M1 Junction 29a. The wooden outdoor play area (right next to the café) has swings, a slide and wooden battlements and towers - just like a mini Bolsover Castle. There are also plenty of grassy areas for a run around. The interactive exhibition in the Riding House is great, and there’s a family multimedia guide is available for exploring the rest of the castle - just ask at the visitor centre as you enter. There are two opportunities to dress up - in the Riding House and in the play 'Love's Welcome' in the Little Castle.
