Please help - I’m really struggling with DH’s birthday!

DH’s birthday is very soon. I’ve been putting off present buying because I find him so hard to buy for, and now I’ve sat down and tried to order something, I can’t find anything I can afford!

He has said he’d like a really good toaster. I thought I’d get him a Dualit one. Then I saw the price - most definitely can not afford that.

Then he said he’d like a really good Santoku knife. I know nothing about knives and which brands are good or not, so I googled reviews but they all seem to recommend knives over £150! Again, I can not afford that!

So now I’m stuck. I have no other ideas apart from a new fleece which will cost about 10 quid. My plan was to get this plus toaster and knife, before I realised how expensive those things are.

Help?!

What’s your budget?

fedup21 · 09/07/2019 13:33

Does he know the budget?

John Lewis has santoku knives well under £150 and I generally trust the quality there as haven't bought anything that's been flimsy or shoddy

I’m not really sure, I think I was thinking about 50 quid each for toaster and knife. But I don’t want to buy something that isn’t really good quality just to fit the budget, if you know what I mean? I think DH would rather I didn’t buy either if they aren’t really going to be decent products, I just had no idea how much these things could potentially cost. But then I can’t think of any other ideas.

He doesn’t necessarily know the budget but he wouldn’t want us spending hundreds of pounds of family money on a couple of kitchen items for him (I’m on mat leave)

Will have another look at John Lewis, thanks. There was a lot of choice and I got a bit overwhelmed so closed the browser!

I’ve got an ikea 365+ Santoku knife and it’s really good. In fact, I have two because I like them so much. It was about £17.

That would leave plenty of budget left for a toaster. And there are cheaper dualit ones available, if you want to get one of them.

I bought DP a Damascus chopping knife from Lakeland. I think I paid £40 and it came in a lovely presentation box.
