It's been there around 7 years. Will it taste awful?

It's my friends dd's prom tonight. We've been invited over to see her before she heads off. My other neighbor and I would love to make a fuss of her. She's a lovely girl, but i obviously don't want to poison her.

There's a few bottles of prosecco here. I could take one of those instead, but thought the champagne would be a bit more special

I've googled. Advise is 5-10 years if keep in the fridge. Still no wiser. Anyone know if it would be ok?

It should be ok but i wouldn't waste it on 16 year olds!

Livebythecoast · 09/07/2019 13:03

It doesn't 'go off' as such but it might have lost it's fizz and be a bit flat but you won't poison her! 🥂

caringcarer · 09/07/2019 13:04

It will be ok and will not poison her but it will taste strong. She might prefer the light taste of Prosecco. My dh likes vintage champagne but it is strong and I don't like it much, I prefer younger champagne up to about two or three years old or a bottle of Prosecco.

Thanks all. I think I'll go with the prosecco

Bit hit and miss really - general advice is to keep it in the dark and turn frequently if it's over several years.

It might be alright, just keep a back up bottle in case it isn't.

Needtomovemore · 09/07/2019 13:34

Most 16 year olds don’t like champagne anyway so chances are she won’t even realise if it’s a bit odd Grin

Orangeyougladitsme · 09/07/2019 13:47

Take the Champagne and get it used up. Take a bottle of 'just in case' Prosecco. If the Champagne tastes crap, crack open the Prosecco. Job done.

Orangeyougladitsme · 09/07/2019 13:47

Mind you, I think they all taste shit. I'm a cup of tea kind of old lady now 😂

HUZZAH212 · 09/07/2019 13:49

Take the Moet or it'll continue to live in your fridge until you chuck it out.

Shock at a bottle of fizz being unopened for 7 years.
Have a nice celebration!

Ive got one in my wine rack ...my sister bought it for my birthday 2 years ago - Im waiting until my sister goes into remission before we crack it open together!!!

This is a bit of a bug bear of mine (albeit a very first world bug bear!). Non vintage champagne doesn’t last very long at all. It will definitely be off. Take the Prosecco, and in future, drink the champagne!
