Has anyone been to the Ferrari Museum at Maranello?

We are holidaying in Tuscany this year and my ds (10) would absolutely love to visit this museum.

We will be staying near Siena and I know that it's about a 2 3/4 hour drive, so thought we could perhaps make it part of the trip and have a few days visiting places enroute. We need to end up at Pisa.

So:

  1. is the museum worth it (for a Ferrari mad child).
  2. There's another museum in Modena, I believe. The websites aren't clear as to the difference between them. Is one road cars and one race cars?
  3. where is good to stay around there?
  4. Any recommendations for places to visit on the trip?

Thank you

I have been to the one at Marenello. My children were about 6 & 7 at the time and loved it. It wasn't just race cars although there was a fair amount of F1 as you would imagine, there was lots of other Ferrari's there.

The Modena museum was Enzo Ferrari's home I believe and has a bit of a different focus - it you're a petrol head then Maranello is the place.

We did it as a stop off when travelling between Parma and Bologna and spent about 2 hours there.

Was definitely a worthwhile trip if someone is car mad, we all really enjoyed it.

Although what I will say is it's a fair old trek from Siena and Pisa.

You could spend a few hours in Bologna which is an interesting city.

Yes, it's worth it. We took a car mad (like his dad) DS when he was 12 and he loved it. I love cars too so found it very interesting as did our less car mad DD (then 15).

We did both Ferrari museums on a joint ticket (from memory one covers the history, the other racing) plus the Pagani museum. There's a Lamborghini museum in Bologna too but we couldn't fit it. DH has been there on a seperate trip and recommends it highly!

We just stayed in this agriturismo. I think i booked it on booking.com

I can’t help you on the wider questions, but I can tell you about the museum at Maranello. It’s magnificent and holds a lot of memorabilia as well as cars. They have road and race cars there and a lot about auto technology. They also have various exhibitions that change so worth seeing what is on at the moment. It’s also fairly interactive, you can sit in an F1 car, etc. If you have a car crazy small boy, it would be an absolute treat.

I think the Modena museum is more about Enzo Ferrari himself but I haven’t been there.

I took my DH for the day as a surprise when we were staying in Bologna - we got the bus. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it as I am not remotely interested in racing cars, but there were also some very beautiful road cars.

Thanks all. MsRinky which one did you go to?

The Maranello one.

MsRinky That's great. I'm not sure I want to do 2, and guess the Maranello one is the one he'd want to go to most. I'm glad you didn't feel it was lacking, just seeing the one.
