DS is getting his train track braces put on later this week. I want to get him some supplies ready to help the process, what sort of thing do you reccomend? Does he need bonjela? Mouthwash? I'm assuming paracetamol? Food wise I was thinking ice cream because it is soft but would it be too cold?

We had calpol in.
They gave special dental wax to put over any bits that rubbed.

Foodwise we did soup, then cottage pie, then favourite food cut up small.

All fine within a week, probably less.

Paracetamol.
Iglu gel.
Soft food for the first day or two: soup, pasta etc.

Orthodontic wax (although mine never used this).
Fluoride mouthwash.
Orthodontic toothbrush and possibly interdental brush.

It's very uncomfortable for the first day or two after the brace is fitted. Then mildly uncomfortable for a few hours after each adjustment.

Waterpik. The plug in one is best but not portable so a handheld one is great too. You can use a manual interspace brush too but the waterpik is far better imo.

Tepe brushes, the hygienist will help you find the right sizes. Mixed pack to start?

Oral-B brush heads - the sensi ultra thin ones are great for braces.

Wax - they’ll give you this, then you can see if you need more or not.

Hygienist appointment ASAP to help you work out how to brush them

Fluoride mouthwash - I like the colgate one fluorigard - but there’s lots of other options

Food wise
Soup
Weetabix
Pasta - the soup one is nice and small
Most stuff is okay if cut up really small/sucked more than usual, but especially if you get bite turbos then it’s a learning curve!

Painkillers and anbesol- good to have on hand in case they are needed

Good luck!
