Would this criminal incident be online anywhere?

My friend is considering dating someone who has admitted that they killed someone in a drink driving incident some 20 odd years ago. Friend wants to find out more and is sceptical about the details the person has given. They know their name and age, but not where it happened or any other details. I work with said friend and we have to declare if we know or are involved with anyone with a CR of any sort but they want to know more. Would it be Google able?

It might be but generally an area would help.

I found details of a murder from 1982 not from the original murder but when the murderer was nearing a release date ten years later and his girlfriend was a school teacher and a worried parent contacted the newspapers.

It would be in court records, the bare bones of which are available to anyone, anything more detailed she's have to pay for, and isn't guaranteed of getting in any case. Does she know even a rough location to begin searching?
Newspaper archives may confirm or dispute what he's told her in terms of details too.

She knows where the person has lived (all within one county) so that helps or may do, as she doesn't know if the incident happened elsewhere. Thanks for both replies. I've done a brief internet search but didnt know what words best to use. Haven't found anything so far.

It's a woman btw :)

Try the national archives.

Hello Crumbs, I don't know if this will help:-
hub.unlock.org.uk/knowledgebase/dvla-records-of-driving-offences-and-how-theyre-shared/#How%20can%20third%20parties%20access%20details%20of%20my%20driving%20record?

I don't blame your friend. Boyfriend may be vague about the details because he finds it a difficult subject, however she does need to know about it.

I worked with a very nice lady who married a man who had killed someone while out driving with friends. He was a teenager when it happened and went into Young Offenders (used to be borstal) for a while. He told my colleague all about it.

He never, ever drove again.

My colleague married this man when they were in their early forties (second marriage for both and both had children), they have been very happy for years now and even had two more children.

She does all the driving.

It all worked out for them which shows honesty is the best policy.
I hope your friend has a good outcome from her investigations.

If she knows where the accident took place, local papers may have details in their archives.
