My lodger and houmous amongst other things

Houmous related incidents -

I was looking for it in the fridge, only to find that my lodger had taken it to her fridge shelf because she had assumed that I wouldn’t eat it since it was past the sell by date. She’s right about that. Still I found it odd. Surely you would say?

Second houmous related incident - the online food shopping came yesterday and I couldn’t find the houmous I had ordered. Some 12 hours later I found it and since it had been out of the fridge that long, I threw it away.

This morning my lodger found it in the kitchen bin, fished it out and put it with her food in the fridge. She did then tell me and said that she had assumed I had misread the sell by date. I said no and by this stage the houmous had been out of the fridge for 24 hours, so we chucked it.

Even odder and slightly irritating or maybe not?

I guess living with other people is just difficult full stop, and Lord knows what she finds odd / annoying about me???

She is maybe very stretched for money. Its an odd thing to do without asking.

Maybe she hates food waste and really likes hummus?

Her AIBU would read 'my landlady keeps throwing away perfectly good hummus' Grin

Sounds like she is a bit short of cash and likes hummus. I wouldn;t take food out of the bin, but I would eat hummus that had been out of the fridge for 12 hrs. Direct her to the reduced shelf in tesco - hummus is frequently to be found there.

but I would eat hummus that had been out of the fridge for 12 hrs.

Yes I was wondering that but since it was hot yesterday, I wasn’t sure.

She really does like houmous (am I spelling this wrong?) Grin.

I would eat it after 12 hours out of the fridge myself. Maybe she just hates food wastage?

She is very frugal / parsimonious, but I end up feeling watched / judged. We undoubtedly waste more food than she does. Which is not great I know. Harder to control however with teenagers in the house.

Still I would not be getting food out of the bin after 24 hours.
