How quickly can we realistically expect to renew DD's passport?

Just that.
Sitting here with DD planning a last minute trip and realised that her passport expires in August.
She needs to apply for a renewal from child to adult passport but no idea whether this takes any longer.
Has anyone had their's back in fewer than four weeks at this time of year?

I just did DS's, he's 18 now so was a child to adult renewal. I did it online and it only took six days.

StillMedusa · 07/07/2019 00:00

My DS1 just renewed his as it was damaged... did it online and it took a week..arrived today!

The PITA bit was taking the photo..you can do them yourself but no shadow is allowed. After many (rejected) attempts we took a photo of a passport photo he'd had done (in case we did a paper application) using his phone, and it was accepted!

hawleybits · 07/07/2019 00:06

This is really encouraging!
If we get it sent off first thing on Monday, it might be OK. I'm still reluctant to actually book anything until after it arrives though. We have four weeks and two days.
Here's hoping 🤞

Filled first passport out for dd last week. Documents back and passport will be here soon according to the text I got yesterday.

Heratnumber7 · 07/07/2019 00:29

If you go to a passport office you can get a passport same day.

hawleybits · 07/07/2019 11:24

Hopefully it won't be necessary to go to a passport office. If it doesn't arrive, we will have to rethink our dates.
One more thing: does someone have to act as a counter signatory if it's a renewal, rather than a new application? DD has applied online but wasn't asked for details of a counter signatory, so I'm a bit confused.

I had my 2 children’s renewed in 10 days! Did it online! You should be fine x

ShesABelter · 07/07/2019 11:28

Done it online a few weeks ago and had it within 5 days.

Sexnotgender · 07/07/2019 11:29

I did ours all online about 8 weeks ago including DDs renewal. Child to child not child to adult. No countersignatory, came in about 10 days. Did it all online and just mailed her old passport.

NC4Now · 07/07/2019 11:31

I sent ours off last week for an August holiday. One was a child to adult renewal.
Online was easy. No counter signatures required.

Oh, what a relief!
You know how you google round, looking for answers, when all you really need to do is ask mumsnet.
I'm very grateful to you all!

Just did both mine and DS’s online.
Both took just under a week

purpleboy · 07/07/2019 18:49

I've just done 4 renewals and we needed a counter signature for them. 2 adults 1 child to adult and 1 child.
3 came back in 6 days, mine took 3 weeks as they rejected the photo but then wouldn't let me upload another one😬

purpleboy · 07/07/2019 18:50

Must add our passport where stolen so maybe that's why we needed a counter signature?

Ozziewozzie · 07/07/2019 18:56

It’s easy. Just take completed forms to post office and pay a few quid extra for check and send. They sit with you and go through the form to ensure it’s correct then send it off. It’s guaranteed within 10 days I think but for us it’s nevervtaken that long. It’s well worth it.

dementedpixie · 07/07/2019 19:00

Oh God no, dont waste your money on check and send. Its cheaper and just as quick to do it online. Only need a countersignature over age 12 if they cant be recognised from the existing photo

dementedpixie · 07/07/2019 19:01

Think our renewals (3 this year) took 10-14 days to come back

MadamePompadour · 07/07/2019 19:03

Renewed my adult passport a month ago and it took six days.

bruffin · 07/07/2019 19:05

When dd went from adult to child took less than a week. We did it online.
She will only need a counter signature if she is unrecognisable from previous photo. Dd looks hadnt changed that much at all, s

I really wouldnt, complete waste of money and time abd have seem PO give out wrong advice in this situation.
Online is the quickest and easiest

LimpLettice · 07/07/2019 19:05

I'm renewing at the moment and spoke to passport office this morning. They said applications in now are 3 weeks.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 08/07/2019 08:10

I've just done 4 over the last 4 months. Ds1 child to adult renewal - 11 days (no countersignature required).
Ds3 first child passport - 8 days.
Ds2 child renewal - 4 weeks (his old passport was stolen through the post and and just the envelope - sliced open at the top - was delivered. Otherwise his would have been much quicker.
Mine - adult renewal with name change - 4 days!!!!! That included the weekend. No one believes me on that one!! (No countersignature required).

ThisMustBeMyDream · 08/07/2019 08:10

Mine was done last week btw.

hawleybits · 09/07/2019 08:03

ThisMustBeMyDream, THAT, has to be a record!
