Best outdoor toys for toddlers

presidentgerbil · 06/07/2019 19:13

DS is coming up to 19 months and is crazy about the garden. He just wants to be outside all the time.

It's a smallish garden, with nowhere to store anything, and DS usually drops toys after 5 minutes and is never interested in them again.

We've got a scuttlebug and some footballs and bubble stuff, but it's getting a bit dull, so looking for some recommendations on outdoor toys. What kept your toddler's interest?

Thank you!

A bubble machine

A bucket of water and a big paintbrush for painting the fence

Foam bath letters and water spray bottle (stick on patio doors)

My toddler has a mud kitchen, a slide and a sand/water table. All of which get plenty of play, a different one is favoured each day! We're onto the second summer of most (third for the slide). We also have a small garden, but those things can stay out all the time and can be tucked away to one side if needed.

She's also got a plastic 'lawnmower' that blows out bubbles as you push it along. Also a big hit! We have a plastic storage unit that it lives in, next to the actual lawnmower.

playhouse, sandpit and little tikes block slide.

Mine loves being outside too. I just got her the little tikes giant slide and a little picnic table with umbrella from amazon. She has a water table too. I want to get her one more toy too

We have a very small garden - our great successes over two kids have been the slide (big one) and sand and water table.

Water table for sure

We've just put in an area with bark and some diggers which is a hit with 4yo and 1yo.

My 18 month old loves her water table and little tikes slide

Pop up tent & tunnel & a sand/water table.

Figmentofimagination · 06/07/2019 21:24

Water table. DS (2yo) orders us to fill it up as soon as we go outside. Also his cozy coupe and push lawn mower.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 06/07/2019 21:34

We have this Little Tikes sand and water table. It's good because it has both plus a lid to keep cats out. Looks a bit random folded closed but is brilliant when unfolded.

DS also loves this Aquaplay set. It folds in half so is portable and has had loads of play. We often take it with us when away too.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I'll go through them properly when I finally get DS to sleep! He's going to love it, he just wants to be outside all the time, I think a slide and a water table would be definite winners.

Sandpit and a cheap paddling pool with coloured pebbles and little ducks in it. He likes to put on his wellies and splash in it (or splash barefoot on the odd occasion it's sunny in Scotland). Also a wee pop up tent with cushions and books in it is a real hit, and we put up a few different coloured windmills and stuff as well.

Did you considered any riding toys for toddlers? Or your garden is not big enough for those?

PineappleCocktail · 12/02/2020 12:40

A good sturdy sand and water table is all you really need. Chuck a load of dinosaurs and little people and some trucks in it- hours of fun.

PineappleCocktail · 12/02/2020 12:40

Also a bucket and brush, get him to 'paint the fence' with water. They love it.
