Show me how you protect your carpet by external doors

We have two young DC and are putting down carpet by the lounge patio doors going straight out onto the garden because we really hate ourselves. Options we’re considering are a clear vinyl runner, a piece of the same carpet edged and placed on top of the actual carpet as a mat, or potentially a section of luxury vinyl planks in front of the doors. Not sure I want to spoil the look of a single floor, though.

It won’t be the only access to the garden - there’s a door from the kitchen for when it’s really wet or dirty outside - but the lounge doors will still get a fair bit of use.

I’m stuck for inspiration and what’s best. Anyone up for sharing pics of what they’ve got?

Thanks, Caspian, but we really do prefer the comfort and quiet of carpet. I know it’s not desperately fashionable these days or the easiest choice in practical terms but we’re not 100% alone.

I just use regular floor mats! A friend had matching ends of the carpet made into mats which looked nice

Thanks, Mrs That’s one option we’re considering as it’d easier to clean than hoofing the Vax washer out all the time. Really interested in any images anyone can share for comparison!

We have about a foot of four matting inside the door. Laid by the carpet fitter so it joins the carpet.

This is the coir just inside the front door, then our silver carpet. Ignore how badly it needs hoovered #slattern.

I bought a hard, non slip vinyl carpet protector mat ( quite large) for use by my husband’s desk since the last carpet got ruined by his computer chair . Looks good, is transparent so the effect still is that of the carpet.
