Very different pregnancy from last time = different sex?

I've heard people say this and just wondered how true it was?

I'm pregnant with DC2 and the nausea/sickness has been much more manageable this time. Last time it was horrendous - in fact we will have a nearly four year age gap and a big part of that was me not wanting to go through the first trimester again. I now feel silly as it hasn't been anywhere near as bad as I remember it.

On the other hand I'm much more tired this time around. But I prefer that to sickness.

Can I read anything into this or is it just the way it goes? If you had very different pregnancies did they turn out to be one of each, boy and girl?

Not for MIL. Her second was also a boy.
Not for my mum. Her second was also a girl.
Both were convinced they were carrying the other because it was so different to their first and neither forgave their second child

I read the thread title and thought it was going to be a thread asking if different sex positions resulted in a different kind of pregnancy and was very intrigued 🙈😂 never mind me....

Teddyreddy · 04/07/2019 19:22

Nausea was better in my 2nd pregnancy and it turned out to be a girl, my 1st was a boy. Im pregnant with DC3, and nausea is a lot worse this time than either my 1st or 2nd pregnancies, but I don't know which gender it is so can't say what that means yet.

Soola · 04/07/2019 19:26

I carried differently with both of mine that went to full term.

I was less sick with my second, a daughter compared with my first a son when I had dreadful morning sickness.

BalloonSlayer · 04/07/2019 20:49

Boy girl boy and pregnancies all much the same, eg never felt sick in the morning, it started at lunchtime and reached its peak before bed, which is slightly odd (but not unheard of) with all three.

ParadiseLaundry · 04/07/2019 21:43

I always thought this would be true too until I experienced it

DS1, no nausea, fatigue, very weepy and emotional, no BFP until period was over a week late

DS2, awful nausea up to week 14, no fatigue, very angry and irritable all the time! BFP day before missed period

My bump looks the same though and I've had the same craving for chewing bath sponges Grin

DD was my pukey pregnancy (with a bit of random bleeding thrown in!).

DS was my 'don't feel pregnant' pregnancy (but with a couple of episodes of low movement which I had monitored).

So quite different for me.

Crunchymum · 04/07/2019 21:50

I had no sickness with DC1 or DC2 (B and G) yet felt awful and was very ill with DC3. Who had to be one or the other??? Grin

fblake · 04/07/2019 21:54

Congratulations on your DC2 Smile my two pregnancies were very different. I was really sick with my first and chilled mood wise, who was a boy. With my second I felt sick but didn't really vomit but wanted to kill people and was a girl. I just knew the sex was different on this basis alone. X

Herefortheduration · 04/07/2019 21:58

My pg and births were nigh in identical, I had boy then girl, lol

DuchessSybilVimes · 04/07/2019 21:59

1st pregnancy - breezed through it. No sickness. A bit tired. Easy. Girl.

2nd pregnancy - hell. 3months off sick with HG. Couldn't sleep. Hip pain. Back pain. Everything pain. Exhausted. Hard, hard, hard. Girl.

CormoranStrike · 04/07/2019 22:05

I had identical pregnancies and had one of each.

Gertie75 · 04/07/2019 22:05

With dd1 I had mild nausea, craved full fat cola, hated curry, felt great.

Second pregnancy was total opposite in every way, awful sickness, hated cola, loved curry, felt like shit so was convinced it was a boy and had another girl.

UFOLover · 04/07/2019 22:06

My pregnancies were so different. Very difficult first pregnancy with sickness etc. Second one was a breeze. Dc were the same so I'm not sure there's any truth in the theory.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 04/07/2019 22:06

That's what I found. DS was a ridiculously easy pregnancy and I felt beautiful and glowing and gorgeous once the vomiting stopped at 12 weeks.
DD was a hideous, painful pregnancy with lots of worries and constant nausea at all times. I felt horribly hormonal with her to the point where DH decided it just be a girl long before we had it confirmed!

Confusedandworried321 · 04/07/2019 22:07

Not for me, I was very sick with DS2 and everyone said oh it must be a girl for that reason! I had nausea with DS1 but nowhere near as bad and not for as long. I also had some random spotting with DS1, not even a tiny bit with DS2.

youngestisapsycho · 04/07/2019 22:08

My 2 pregnancies were completely different.... both were girls! I was convinced 2nd was gonna be a boy!

thinkingaboutthinking19 · 04/07/2019 22:09

Felt the same during both pregnancies (well currently pg with DC2) was convinced we were having another DD as everything was the same but no we're expecting a boy.
The only thing that is different now I'm bigger is the way I'm carrying- my bump is very different.

boosterrooster · 04/07/2019 23:18

This is my second pregnancy and so far it's been the exact same as my first except Im having a girl this time, have a DS already. All symptoms exact same and same symptoms kicked in at the exact same stages too

Thesearmsofmine · 04/07/2019 23:22

3 different pregnancies(one I threw up every day until he was born, one I felt amazing had zero sickness, the other just mild sickness) and 3 boys.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/07/2019 23:23

My mum was sick with me and my as sister right up until we were born, as was I with DD. My nan who had 2 boys and a girl (my mum) was fine and glowing with her boys but as felt ghastly sick when she was having my mum.
My sister has 2 boys and had like my nan was blooming. She did have sore boobs and heart burn, how ever.
Therefore on that basis girls seem harder to carry.
What do you have already.

Stroan · 04/07/2019 23:25

1st pregnancy, complicated but I felt fine mostly. Mostly unremarkable. Had a girl.

2nd pregnancy - 24/7 nausea and some sickness from week 5 until now (31w), infections, bleeds, PGP, migraines, heartburn. This one is a boy.

Totally anecdotal of course. I have plenty of friends who confirm or deny the theory!

Strokethefurrywall · 04/07/2019 23:40

Nope, 2 totally different pregnancies led me to believe Ds2 was a girl so imagine my surprise when we finally decided to find out the sex at 23 weeks to see very well formed genitalia!

So I had two boys, two different pregnancies, so anecdotal evidence says not true.

KnifeAngel · 05/07/2019 07:16

Mine were completely different. I was convinced it was the opposite sex but it wasn't.
