Is this ok to wear as a wedding guest?

I hope my fellow MNetters can help me out! I've been invited to my childhood best friend's wedding in a pretty hillside tiny chateau sort of place in the south of France at the end of the summer. The guests are just me and one other friend and the couple's families.

I hoped you could give me opinions on if the dress in my attached picture is ok - if it's too blingy and showy or if it would be ok. I need to cover my arms and wear something long, which is why I picked this out. The beads on it sparkle when they catch the light so it does look very striking (possibly too much so, that's why I'm not sure!).

My friend is wearing a reasonably large A line dress (not meringue though) which is white lace with a reasonable amount of sparkly stuff on it.

I've never been invited to a wedding before and I know my friend will say yes whatever I suggest wearing so I hoped for some objective opinions here!

Thank you in advance!

That’s a bit wedding dress/bridesmaids dress to me.

woodtv · 03/07/2019 22:04

Hmm, it's lovely but a bit too bridal.

OhEliza · 03/07/2019 22:05

Nah, I wouldn't.

Lovely dress though.

No. Not wedding appropriate.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/07/2019 22:10

Ooh, I'm not normally one to worry about that stuff, but that is a bit bridal.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/07/2019 22:11

Especially if she's wearing lace. Confused

moanyhole · 03/07/2019 22:14

Nope. Too bridal. Lovely tho!

TheRedBarrows · 03/07/2019 22:24

Beautiful dress but too pale, lacy and bride-like.

hellenbackagen · 03/07/2019 23:01

I'd wear that as a bride , but not as a guest. It's lovely but bridal imo.

SrSteveOskowski · 03/07/2019 23:50

I don't think it's bridal, but I do think it's very formal. Unless it's a black tie wedding it might be a bit too much.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/07/2019 00:01

Too bridal

RickAstleyGaveMeUp · 04/07/2019 00:01

Normally I think most dresses are fine for weddings but this one really is too bridal, in the video on Net A Porter it looks nearly white when the light catches the sparkle.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 04/07/2019 00:04

I really like it - if it was quite a formal wedding I’d wear it.

This is possibly more suitable. www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/1146681

I love Needle and Thread, my wedding dress was from there - their “bridal” section though!

Persea · 04/07/2019 00:19

That’s a beautiful dress, but probably a bit too bridal.
If you need long and long sleeved, try here - the Ghost sale - it has both.

If she's wearing full length sparkly lace you'll look like her bridesmaid at best, sorry.

MiniMum97 · 04/07/2019 00:30

No way. You'd look like the bride.

Kyogre · 04/07/2019 09:35

It's a bit bridal. Lovely dress though.

Ponoka7 · 04/07/2019 11:34

I agree that it's a bit bridal. Unless you know what her dress and the bridesmaids/MOB/G is wearing and it's completely different.

Otherwise you could look like the Chief Bridesmaid.

PCohle · 04/07/2019 11:41

Too bridal - the combination of long and lacy and pale makes it too much.

Bananallama858 · 04/07/2019 11:43

No - it’s very bridal

LeNil · 04/07/2019 11:49

Lovely but it will be too hot! South of France at end of summer expect around 35 degrees, maybe more, it was 37 degrees at a wedding here (south of France) last weekend. Choose something light and floaty, avoid heavy material or heavily lined dresses . Wrap for the evening incase it gets chilly, take a spare pair of flat shoes for comfort.
Enjoy the wedding.

babysharkah · 04/07/2019 12:14

Nope.

amusedbush · 04/07/2019 12:50

Definitely not, it looks like a wedding dress.
