Posting here for traffic... Hope that's ok!
I want to take DD14 to London for two days / one night during the summer holidays to do all the tourist stuff but am on a small budget. I've found some reasonable hotels online but getting there is looking really expensive! We're coming from near Bristol and I was hoping to do train. Does anyone have any recommendations for part driving / part train or best sites to book train tickets on? Also thinking of things to do and places to stay once we're there? I want us to do the London Eye and Oxford Street. Thank you!

Camden Town?

A trip down the Thames on a boat - you can use your Oyster card to get the clipper boat from London Bridge to Greenwich then go up into Greenwich park and see the planetarium?

IMAX cinema in Waterloo is pretty cool

The Olympic park / swimming pool at Stratford?

You can go on the Emirates air line cable car thing on an oyster too from Greenwich - obviously you need to check the price and put it on your card first

Madame Tussaud's

Science museum

Natural history museum

Tate

Depends what they're into really 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

100% recommend a walk along South Bank and Borough Market. You can do the View from the Shard on the cheap too by going up to the bar instead. It's free entry and you can just grab one set of drinks and sit by a window to admire the view!

Just go in the main entrance and say that you want to bar :)

For a 14 year old I'd do Camden, South Bank, Covent Garden, maybe Harrods. I'd leave the London Eye, you can get great views elsewhere. If you were in Camden you could take a walk to Primrose Hill and see a great view, the Shard bar as mentioned above is another one. In Covent Garden I'd go for a glass of something in The Savoy, lots of nice bars, you're treated like royalty. What is dd into? I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than go to the museums in the summer holidays but then I live in London so have the luxury of going for inset days/ cheeky days off etc.

Teens in my family enjoyed Soho and the West end in the evening, maybe a bite to eat in Chinatown.

Does she like museums? They can be done on the cheap.
