Anyone been camping to the Munich Oktoberfest?

We were talking about this - DP would like to go. I'd like to see Munich so am looking at the campsites.

One has really good reviews, and comes with full breakfast and dinner. They give you a 2-person tent (already assembled) and a pillow and sleeping bag and there's unlimited beer as well...

It's cheap.

We are 50s. Is it a good idea? Toilets will be in a block at the end of the row of tents, and I (at least) will be up in the night (at least once! Blush) and showers. There are reports of 'new friends' and 'parties every night - (tiill 10pm) but I know that although DP is enthusiastic atm, he will complain like Billy-O about the sleeping bag, the snorers, the noise, the heat/cold, the toilets, almost everything once there. We are only doing 2 nights though.

I think I'd prefer to pay for a hotel or AirBnB but he wants the 'experience'.

WWYD?

Definitely book a hotel. I camped once and only once for Oktoberfest and Oktoberfest was great but camping was hell on Earth and I'd never do it again. The Aussies will keep you away with 3am singalongs.

"parties every night - (tiill 10pm" Ha. More like 5am

Which camping ground is it btw? Thalkirchen?

Thanks Pineapple - it's actually with Stoke travel. It looks great fun, if you are in your 20s!

I like a toilet within walking distance and cotton sheets rather than a nylon sleeping bag, but I know I could do it for 2 nights. DP - not so much. He complains about everything, and makes travelling quite trying (for me!)

AirBnb I think it'll be! At least I'll be happy, warm and comfortable, albeit a bit more skint.

AirBnb for sure. You will have more fun with a nice room and bathroom facilities at the end of a long day.

I was in my 20s when I went and it was hell, but then I'm not a party or camping person. I fell in love with Munich though. It's a wonderful city and Oktoberfest is a lot of fun. I hope that you have a wonderful time.

As a regular to Munich going on for 30 years (going in a couple of days again) there are plenty of places to stay, if you book ahead there are some good deals in hotels as it is a peak time for visitors.

Camping not a chance, esp at Oktoberfest (I avoid it at all costs)

I have looked at Airbnb and some of the prices are shockingly expensive, and really I would not like to get on the wrong side of some neighbours as lots of places have very strict rules regarding noise etc, but I did read somewhere they are really cracking down on Airbnb in Munich now.

Not a chance! Munich is fab but get somewhere else to stay. Stag do central.
