What's the six week postpartum check with midwife??

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow for a six week postpartum check. This isn't instead of a doctors one because I have one of those as well. I definitely didn't have one last time (two years ago) so what are they??

Is that the one where they check your tummy muscles and tell you to do pelvic floor exercises or youll lose bladder control when your 50?

And make sure stitches have healed.

Sticksand · 01/07/2019 21:12

I've had all that done already though and no stitches Confused

I don't know anyone who's had one. Maybe it's a regional thing?

@whitehalleve must be! I didn't have one last time but maybe it's changed?

Midwives don't usually have contact after 10 days, but can visit up to 28 days. Are you sure it's not a HV check?

Sticksand · 01/07/2019 22:24

@Jackyjill6 100%, the letter is from my midwife

My trust is thinking about midwives taking over the 6 week check instead of the GP, so maybe they're trailing something similar.

adagio · 01/07/2019 22:38

I didn’t even get my stitches checked - gp asked if I was ok down there I said not really, they said these things take time - and didn’t even check. Still not right now! Perhaps a midwife check is more thorough?

UterusUterusGhali · 02/07/2019 00:32

Adagio put your foot down if it's still not right! Post party mum perineal/pelvic floor care is shocking in the uk.

*partum. 😂 Ffs!

Strange as we got discharged by the midwife after their 3rd home visit (around 10 days pp).
We're supposed to have a 6-8 week check but I understand that's with GP (although we haven't received our letter yet) because they do it at the same time as LOs first immunisations.
HV is coming today too (now 7 weeks pp) to weigh LO.

I can't find the letter so I don't know if I'm dreaming this Blush

Let us know Sticksand, whether it was all a sleep deprived dream

Sticksand · 02/07/2019 19:29

No, definitely happened!Grin

Midwife just asked are you worried about anything, asked if he was putting on weight and then that was it really, do you think you're recovering okay etc. About 5 minutes Grin

Ahh I think it just works differently with different trust - having mine with GP at 8 weeks, same conversation will be had from what I've been told m
