Where in Europe should we go on holiday?

I’ve procrastinated too long and flight prices are rising fast. I need to book something soon, for the end of August. Can someone suggest somewhere warm (26ish plus), pretty, with plenty for active kids to do and that isn’t a Brits-abroad type place (so not Benidorm type)? Am happy to do ferry/ drive or fly but need flights not more than £200 pp. We’l Probably book a villa rather than a hotel to make sure we’re all together as we won’t all fit in a family room. Can anyone inspire me, please?

I’ve tried skyscanner to find cheap flights, but the problem is I don’t know which resorts are near which airports so it’s really slow progress working my way through the “fly me anywhere” lists!

Do you mean for this August or next August (2020),

Im afraid most places will be already booked now in terms of cheap villas or cheap flights for this year as its only next month.

We have a holiday let, usually Summer holidays ie July and August are fully booked by October the year before

This year! Finances have been up and down, wasn’t sure we could afford a holiday until now...

I just need a destination, am confident in my ability to find accommodation ( it’s just a base, it’s the place that matters!)

What are your exact dates and max budget?
I'm in the same position as due to Dh starting a new job we were unsure of dates.
So annoying as we normally book in advance so we get cheap flights as well as the 'pick' of the villas.
But I've looked at loads so might have seen something for you in my searches.

17 August to 3rd September (up to 2 weeks in that period). Budget £200 pp flights, plus £2-3k villa. Work were late agreeing leave, then finances dipped, picked up, dipped again.... aarrgghh!

Somewhere where you speak some of the local language perhaps?

AquaPris · 01/07/2019 20:14

@Howmanysleepstilchristmas the Algarve, Portugal?

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 01/07/2019 21:43

That’s Germany, Spain or France language wise... but still would like destination ideas!

See if there is anything on jet2villas and then you don't have to worry about matching up flights and accommodation as it's all done as a package.

GivemeGinandTonic · 01/07/2019 21:53

Choose a few of the cheaper flight destinations and look round those areas on trip advisor. Example if Pisa airport was decent price you would have lots of different parts of Tuscany to chose to stay in, Volterra, Florence region, a good farm stay in the Chianti region etc. Look on the map of air b & b or on the farm stay or villa filters of booking.com.
Do the same with a couple of airports / countries that have low cost flights and you’ll have it whittled down in no time

Would you consider Jersey? Depending on whereabouts in the uk you are it can be very cheap to get there and lovely beaches

stucknoue · 01/07/2019 22:01

There's lots of deals still out there. I found August flights to Genoa last week for £75 ret per person. We were looking at hotels though (about £100 a night for a family room b&b)

stucknoue · 01/07/2019 22:02

Also cheap flights to Alicante - lots of resort options if you are willing to rent a car

CountFosco · 01/07/2019 22:06

I wouldn't worry too much. Last week we booked an Airbnb for 5 in Paris and the Eurostar on the 18 Aug and travelled on the 25 Aug. We had a fantastic time. So if anything you're booking early!
