Has anyone seen the American tv show “Below Deck”?

I’m in the USA watching Below Deck on the Bravo channel. It’s about the crews that work on v high class yachts that are hired out by very rich people. They have a full team of stewards running after them and the boat is amazing, but some of the people that hire them are awful. So rude and obnoxious. But I’m amazed that they allow themselves to be shown on tv as so awful. I’d have thought that the rich folk would sue the arse off the tv company!

But then I guess people seem to like the fame nowadays, even if they look stupid à la Kardashians or Ozbournes!

The rich people get the boat at a massive discount, so people who couldn't afford the yacht normally, may be able to now

Yes I wondered if they would. But still! They come across awfully!

I worked on cruise ships and a few of my friends went on to yachts. I thought they were bad enough on ships but the stories I hear from my friends are insane

I bet! I'm cabin crew, I have the odd story or two of my own, but at least I'm only stuck with a horrible passenger for 12 hours maximum. I don't know how they do it 24/7 for a week.

I watch it and have a friend who was a yachtie for a few years when we were young. Are you watching BD Mediterranean or the normal one? Captain Lee is everything.

Honeyroar · 01/07/2019 15:05

They keep mixing them up. Today it's the Med one, yesterday it was the normal one. It's addictive!

My friend's sister used to do crewing years ago. She'd come home once a year and buy another flat to let out as she just couldn't spend any salary while sailing.

I met a woman on a holiday who'd been on that series as a guest. She said that all the guests had to chip in to hire the vessel and that it had cost them the regular price, ie not discounted at all. She talked about how wonderful it was, but I thought it sounded ghastly.

It looks an amazing boat and they really spoil them. Some of the guests are adorable, others are vile.
