Hi Mumsnet, I am 27 weeks and have started to get very swollen ankles and feet. I'm hoping it's nothing serious? Would appreciate any remedies or treatments that have worked for you, thanks!!

The first thing to do is to tell your gp/midwife just to rule out anything serious.

I get sometimes them because of a medical condition. You can get compression socks (which might not be suitable for pregnant women, I’m not sure) or lay on your back with your feet raised above your head.

The first thing you need to do is sit with your feet elevated at the same level as your hips.
Speak to your midwife at the earliest opportunity :)

Ah right - thanks very much! I am seeing mid wife on Tuesday and will tell her about it. Bit worried as am only 27 weeks and still have plenty more growing to do/weight to gain so wonder how my wee feet will cope! Have got Body Shop Peppermint spray for them which is cool and tingly, it helps but isn't curing it!

No. Ring her TOMORROW

Could be the heat but ring the midwife to rule out anything else. Don’t want to worry you but my niece had pre eclampsia.

Swollen feet could just be the heat but it also could be a bigger concern. Call the MW in the morning, or tonight and check in with them. You probably will need to pop in to the GP or nurse for a Blood pressure check and a urine dip.

Oh. Right. I see, thanks - hadn't realised!
